Ok, this has been done before.... but what hasn't when you really think about it. I'm wondering what grips to get for my J-frame 640 .38 I currently have uncle mike's boot grips, but I want to swith them out. I love the look of these http://www.lightningarms.com/spegel_boot.htm but for concealability and comfort I know they probably aren't the best bet. I'll probably wind up getting a few different sets when all is said and done, but just looking for some input.

Post some pics of your snubs, carry rigs, etc..... if you don't mind. thanks

Those would be exellent for concealment as they would be less prone to snagging than rubber and should look really nice. I like grips that allow room for the pinky myself, otherwise keep your thumbs down and nails short. Good luck

I have a set of Spegall rosewood grips (same maker as those shown in the page you linked to) that I've used on my 640 and 442. They are really nice grips. Often they are hard to find through vendors. I've tried a few different types of wooden grips; Eagle, Badger, some others. Spegalls fit my hand the best. Good fit and finish, no sharp edges. They have the same shape and profile as the Hogue Bantam rubber grips, which I also use. The finish is wearing off the wood grips (just a bit) but it's normal carry wear.

I'd offer to snap some pictures but my camera is AWOL. I'm sure it will come back to me.

thats good to know, thanks. the only thing I wonder about is shooting left handed since it seems that the right grip (where your left thumb would be) does not have the "cutout" for the thumb. This isn't really an issue but I know that the CCW requirement here involves shooting both left and right handed at 3 yrds.... although I think I could shoot it with my foot at that distance and still hit a full silhouette 70% of the time.

Here is my carry gun....a S&W Chief's Special (Model 36) with Hogue Bantam rubber grips and Tuffgun-1 finish. Makes for a great carry gun.

6Gunslinger,

In response to questions in two of your previous threads...

I believe that I have read somewhere in the shooting forums that the Uncle Mike's boot grips were designed by Craig Spegel and therefore should be similar in size and relative hand fit.

Unless I misunderstood your question... the "cut out" for the right thumb is actually where the stocks are relieved to permit the use of a speed loader. Since the cylinder would not tip out in the direction of the thumb (in a left hand hold) there would be no need for the stocks to be relieved, leaving the wood is left for show and fit.

I have these on my 640 (38), 442 (nickel pre lock)
and 340 PD, so they all feel the same.
They were made years ago by Safariland.
They were cut down for me by King's in Glendale, CA.
The gunsmith took off one of the finger grooves.
Thinner that Spegels, so great for the pocket.
