I have a J N Scott Double Barrel Shotgun, London Fine twist. I can't seem to figure out how to break it down to find the serial numbers. I am also trying to find the value of it. The shotgun is in very good shape. Both hammers work the springs a strong and tight, the barrel of the gun is also tight as if new. Any information and sugguested starting points will be highly appreciated.

It probably has a Hackett type forend on it. This is a "snap on" type and you should be able to pry it off from the front. These can be very tight and a small nylon wedge can help. Once the forend is off open the action and the barrels will release from the receiver.

London Fine Twist will means not fluid steel. Sometimes also called Damascus, it is made by twisting the steel around a mandrel to make the tubes. Done during the corrosive BP days, it MIGHT be OK - but it really needs to be thoroughly checked by an old-time smith who knows double guns
