I received my first firearm today for Christmas. It is a J. Stevens arms .22 short/long/long rifle tube fed bolt action. I have no info at all about it. There is no model number or serial number. About how old is it? How do I disassemble it?

J. Stevens is probably 1920 to 1940. No serial numbers were required in those days. In good condition, value (although you didn't ask) is $120-150. There is no need to disassemble it. You can clean the barrel from the breech end. Just a guess, but that knurled screw under the forearm will probably allow you to take the action/barrel out of the stock. Looks like a nice little .22. A great gift. Google J. Stevens .22 bolt action. There is a lot of information out there.

I think the bolt will come out for cleaning if you hold the trigger back and pull it straight out.
Do Not twist or turn on it with it out, or you may un-cock it and not be able to get it back in?

The big screw on the bottom of the stock holds the barred action in the stock.
Unscrew it and lift the metal straight up out of the stock for cleaning under the barrel & mag tube.

Do Not try to take it apart any further then that!!!

I already thought about holding the trigger to pull the bolt because that works on my dads mossberg but it doesn't work on this rifle.

Check out U-Tube. You may find an Tutorial on the tear down of that 22.

May have to look some cause you don`t have a lot of information to go on.

I believe the safety has to be in the "Off" position when pulling the trigger to remove the bolt. At least it is that way on my Stevens 84C, a .22 bolt action like yours but mine is magazine fed.
