STEVENS NO SERIAL #

I posted this in rifle country. I tried google, but to no avail. I have a J. Stevens springfield mod.#83. It has no serial #. The blue is good and there are no wear marks to show that it has been removed. I have never seen a gun past the late 1800's w/out one. It is a single shot 22, bolt action . The cocking mechanism is activated by pulling the rear of the bolt back. I appreciate any info.

P.S. it is not a crackshot.

Built from 1935 through 1939 as a "Stevens", then sold as a "Springfield" from 1939 up until 1942 (when Savage switched over to war production). These rifles never had serial numbers, because they weren't required on long arms until 1968.

the guy I got it from said it was used to train soldiers ww2 and before. I don't know , but it is a good shot .


I would like to refinish the stock for looks if it doesn't hurt the value and replalace the trigger only for cosmetics, thogh
