Last year we took Jack on his first hog hunt, he ended the hunt with a small sow, but it was the first head of game he ever harvested.

His dad brought him back again this year and today was our first day to hunt. He used a 140gr Hornady out of a 6.5x55 to bag the sow in the attached picture. We haven't gotten an exact weight on her yet, will post it tommarow, but she appears to be in the 130-140lb dressed weight range. Jack can't see well enough to shoot over 50yds, he shot her at roughly 40yds.

That's really great of y'all, and I imagine that's one very happy kid!

Are you acquainted with the Texas Wildlife Association, out of San Antonio? They're big on promoting youth hunts, among other pro-hunting efforts.

She fooled me, only 104lbs dressed, she looked alot bigger, but didn't have the girth needed to make 130lbs.

Went out again today, saw a group wallowing about 4p.m., went to the feeder to get situated, it takes some time to get all set-up. Jack and Bob where on the way down to the blind when I glance up and about 10' away is a bunch of hogs coming out of the brush to eat corn. It went downhill from there, the wind was swirling and we couldn't get a spot where at some point the wind didn't go to the feeder. Try again Mon. afternoon.

Art, read some stuff on em awhile back, but right now me and the guy I work with do as much as we can afford. So far this year we helped two kids get their first deer during doe season. Now Jack and have plans for a few more over the next year. I wish we could afford to do this all the time. We never charge anyone for this stuff, normally just kids who need some help for some reason.

We met Jack via the net when his dad was looking for a place. Cheapest price anyone quoted him was $650 apiece for him and his dad. We made him an offer he couldn't refuse. This year we got Kuntry Corner motel out of Pleasonton to furnish a room(so stay their if you ever are in the area they are good folks.) Got a new feeder for a spot for really cheap at Lytle Feed and Seed. It still costs us time and the corn bill, about 100lbs per day for the last week.:D

I guess the biggest pay off is the fun we have. Getting Jack within 50yds of a hog is a trick, getting one to hold still long enough to shoot is almost impossible sometimes. He has Myotonic Dystrophy and it is a struggle for him just to get to the stand. Let's just say that God lends a helping hand every year.

St. Gunner, you deserve a big 'ole pat on the back too, and more. This world needs people like you.

No luck today, Jack has a bad cold and had a constant cough, Texas weather has been good for colds lately. We had some hogs coming in twice this evening and he coughed and they scattered. They head back in the morning for Arkansas, but we are planning a return trip for next year already.

The pic of his hog hanging up is attached and that is Jack in the pic.
