jacketed bullets vs. non jacketed

Can someone let me know some of the pros and cons between these two types of bullets.I'm a newbee to loading I have loaded close to 1000 rounds off 9mm I'm loading with montana gold 115 grain fmj now thanks . chris

For me lead bullets are a lil dirty but not too bad, they cause leading in polygonal rifled barrels and are dirty shooting at indoor ranges. But they are cheaper and you can even cast your own. Jacketed bullets are more expensive but cleaner. I find plated bullets the best of both worlds clean and cheaper than fmj but if you cast your own I find lead to be the best from a cost standpoint.

Thanks Mags maybe you could let me know is the powder charge for a plated bullet about the same as a lead charge? thanks chris

I usually use the start load for FMJ bullets when I load plated but your best bet is to work up from 10 percent FMJ load data or start with lead data. Kind of do as I say not as I do, I know but as a new reloader you should work your loads up to what your max is as long as you stay below the max load data listed. Then you can use your favorite recipe for your loads.

The real mags is wise. Depending on the plated bullet you buy things can be different. Some brands recommend using lead data whereas others don't recommend anything. I sell a relatively new brand of plated bullets. The ones I sell are to be loaded using speer jacketed data. The reason that other plated bullets are recommended at lower velocities is because their plating is much thinner and may separate from the core at high velocities. The plated bullets I sell are Powerbond. There are a few places you can get them. You can get them from powerbond's website, cabelas, HSM website, and www.rmrbullets.com Obviously I prefer you go with rmrbullets as I own the company. However, I like the bullet and I really want to see it gain more popularity so by all means buy them from whoever you want. I would love to see Powerbond become the industry standard. I have been loading both lead and montana gold 9mm jhp. All in all I prefer the montana gold rounds for cleanliness and I like the idea of jhp's. They are reasonable in cost and load well.
