Are these any good? I have the opportunity to buy an older one in 3-9x40 for $25. I want a cheap scope to put on a budget rifle I've got. It's an extremely hard kicking rifle, and I had a Simmons 8 Point I'd gotten included when I bought another scope, and it lasted a total of 6 shots on this rifle before some big chunk of paint, or something was floating around inside of it. So obviously that isn't going to work. I have a Nikon Monarch I've thought about putting on it, but I really don't want to as it's worth a lot more than I think the rifle is.

Honestly, this rifle is one I don't like, I don't enjoy to shoot, and I don't hunt with anymore except for as maybe a backup rifle, which I don't see myself needing. I literally shoot probably 30-40 rounds a year through this thing at most and that's being generous, but I'd like to have it so that I can use it. So clarity doesn't matter so much to me as long as you can see through it, tracking doesn't matter to me so much, I just want something that will stay zeroed.

That said, I also have a buddy that really wants this rifle, so it may just get passed along to him. He has the same gun in a .270 and his is also an extremely hard kicker and uses a Tasco World Class on his and loves it. I normally would go with something a lot nicer, but just don't care to spend the money on this rifle, but I'm not sure what the best thing to get in the lower priced options is at this time. I knew the Japanese optics from the past from Tasco, Bushnell, Simmons, etc have decent reps so that's why I wondered about this one.

I agree, but if it's a piece of junk like most Bushnells seem to be I don't want to even waste my time buying it and trying it. If it's halfway decent like the older Japanese Tasco's and Simmons, I'm willing to give it a shot.

Whoa, there. Most Bushnells are not junk. The whole Elite line are very nice scopes. Shure they have real budget stuff made in China that should not be on anything harder hitting than a 22 Hornet. And you did say Banner which is not their best line by a fair margin, but ... I'd try it?? Most of the older Japanese made scopes are pretty tough.

If this is a hard hitting rifle you probably really need to think about eye relief more than durability. You need more than 3 1/2 inches to safely protect your brow. I'm not sure you can get that out of a Banner? I'd be looking to put a fixed power Weaver steel tube on it. Hell for strong and enough eye relief. Maybe a 4X :)

Most variables loose eye relief as they zoom. Bad deal on a hard kicking rifle :(

They work fine for what they are and a friend of mine just bought a used rifle with the same scope. The rifle was dropped on the scope and the adjustment knob broke. After a call to Bushnell the scope was replaced free of charge within a week so why not?

Stack, I don't want to have to do that though, spend another $50 - $75 and be done with it. Buy a better scope at the outset, then you won't be cussing every time you want to shoot it.
