Jarrods

We don't have a Jarrods here, doesn't matter though I shop locally whenever I can.

What really irks me is the amount of local gunstores that are now posted for no carry.

Yeah, sorry to say that I have very little faith in the tactical effectiveness of the store's mall ninja.

My wife and I are not really interested in jewelry, but visited a Jared store before our wedding (shopping for rings) a while back.

I couldn't help but notice their obnoxious sign indicating that no guns were allowed under any circumstances. Plus, their tacti-cool security guard spent most of his time flirting with one of the young gals who worked there! Nevertheless, I was quite impressed by his fingerless leather gloves (don't know if he was going for the motorcycle gang or UFC fighter look?).

Anyway, I'm a police officer in the city where this store was located... My department explicity states that I shall always be armed (policy also adds that we are considered "always on-duty"). So, with that in mind, I continued to wear my weapon (obviously some folks follow this policy to varying degrees).

At some point the subject of me being an officer came up with the clerk at the store (I normally try not to mention it when I am off-duty, but the clerk sort of recognized me from working in the neighborhood, and asked). Anyway, the mall-ninja hones in on me for some reason, based on this information... At one point he actually asked me if I was armed! I just badged him and said "don't worry about it".

Then I took my business elsewhere. I'm not going to patronize a store that isn't willing to recognize my wife's (or YOUR) ability to exercise your CCW rights. Sure, I can carry in his store, and there is nothing he can do about it... But, still, I don't like the overall attitude that is implicit in his statement (and their policy).

And, I fully agree that this guy was hardly the one I would have wanted to have defending my life, or that of my loved ones! "highly trained" are two words I would not have used to describe him!

Has anyone stopped to think about what we could do to get their attention, possibly change their minds?

For one thing, I'd suggest that EVERY time a THR member needs a piece of jewelery, they need to go to Jared's first. Look, write down prices, and then when they leave, request that the security guard accompany them to their car, since they are carrying cash to pay for a prospective purchase. When they refuse to allow that, make a LOUD stink.

Then, to follow up, send copies of a receipt when you DO buy something to the store manager, the district manager, and the head corp folks.

That is just plain silly. If you didn't request help getting into the store with all your supposed cash, then why the hell are you requesting help leaving? What idiot CHL holder would have all that cash anyway when a check or credit card would be the smarter thing to carry?

I can see it now...

Dear Jared Mgmt,
I was dumb enough to carry a lot of cash into your store and then wanted the security guard to walk me to my car afterward because I felt unsafe with all that cash and he would not. I am mad at you for the stupid thing I did. So I bought elsewhere. Here are my receipts.

Sincerely,
Joe CHL holder

I am not sure how this is going to get them to change store policy on CHLs, however.

Me for one. I'd ask for a 2-3 percent discount for cash. If the answer was,"NO," I feed 'em plastic knowing they've got to give Visa 3-5 off the top of their sale.

Hi all im a guard at Jared, as of june 1st 2008 jared terminated its national contract with securitas, almost all the stores will have no guards at all. Im a army vet. 2 tours 1 iraq and 1 afghanistan, so please dont lump me in with the rest of the cop wannabe's and fatties.
Jared S.O.P was "Never draw your firearm, even if an advantageous
situation presents itself". i always thought that funny. As for the escort comments i have personally escorted people out who have made large purchases there was never a problem. For the "exstensive training" when i applied i was asked if i had my own gun, that was it. Just thought i would share.

Surely I can't be the only one who finds it ridiculously ironic that this ordinance is called "30.06"

I like WEG's thoughts best. Why are we wasting money on jewelry when there's ammo to be bought? :)

I gave their store manager in Plano my 'No CHL, no business' card. They didn't care. But at least I expressed my opinion, and I haven't been back since.

As always . . . shop elsewhere, and send a copy of the receipt for what you bought to the manager of the store with the "no guns" sign, with a note that you would prefer to do business with them, and you'll return as a customer when they take down the signs. It works.

100 or 100,000 such receipts (lost sales) has an impact.

Blockbuster Video took down the signs.

I found out last summer about their policy when I walked in carrying openly and was turned back at the door by the armed guard. Oh well, they lost my business then and in the future. I also choose to boycott Joe’s Sports for having the same policy. Hey, if I can carry in Sportsman’s, Sports Authority, and Cabela’s, what do I need them for? Make sure you drop them an email every now and then to let them know how much you spent at their competitor’s stores.

Oh, and the security guard at Jared’s is not going to escort you to your car to ensure that you’re safe during the most dangerous aspect of your visit either. They neglect to tell you that important information.
