JC HIGGINS 16 GA BOLT ACTION QUESTION

I have a JC Higgins 16 ga. bolt action shotgun that I am restoring for a family friend. I would like to know how to slide out the bolt from the barrel. Should anyone be able to explain how. Usually its the safety switch but maybe not with this shotgun. Thank you. New member here today.

Have you tried pulling the trigger as you slide the bolt back?

If it is like the 20Ga and 12Ga versions, there is a large screw that will have to be removed from the left side of the receiver in order to remove the bolt. After the screw removal, I cannot remember if anything else has to be manipulated but the trigger may have to be pulled.

As I recall, the screw mentioned above is the only thing retaining the bolt in the receiver. It just had to be removed and the bolt would slide out.
