My dad just purchased an old JC Higgins 12 gauge for me. It's apparently just like the one his dad had....

Does anyone have any info on these? Quality? Or is this going to be more of a sentimental thing?

thanks!

HunterGirl,
I have a JCHiggins pump-dunno the model-it's the smoothest pump action I've ever encountered,in over 40 years of owning guns. Not fancy, but slicker than a gob of Vaseline on a fish. :what:
I've seen a few JCH guns that were obviously used & abused, but I can't recall seeing one with a major problem.
Good luck-enjoy!

It would help to know if its a pump, bolt action, SxS....etc. But if its a Model 20 Pump, its made by High Standard and is a decent old gun, definitely a shooter, not much collector value. I had a high school buddy (35+years ago) who owned one. Shoot it, and remember your Dad gave it to you, every time you pull the trigger.:)

JC Higgins were good firearms made by Marlin, Savage, Winchester, Remington, and others. JC Higgins tended to be more basic than Western Field of Montgomery Ward fame, but they were good, solid performers all the way around. The lowest quality, or perhaps to be correct, most basic, firearms sold by Sears were the Ted Williams-branded ones.

Sears makes very few things; they buy products from other companies and paste their logo on it.

Sears fireams were made by most of the "Famous Makers"

Mossberg/Winchester/Remington/Savage

If you can find the actual Sears model number, someone here on THR will tell which maker/model it is. Somewhere I have a cross-reference of various "Store Brand" to "Actual Make/Model" listing.

Sear Model Number could be something like 101.2345.99 or could actualyy be something like "Model 35"
