Have you seen the Jeep ad in USA Today?

On page 15A of the Monday, Jan. 27 edition, Jeep has an ad to express their sympathy for the death of cartoonist Bill Mauldin.

Unfortunetly, Jeep has taken it upon themselves to alter the cartoon. They have removed the gun and replaced it with a box of tissues.

Is that a fitting tribute to Mr. Mauldin? I think not.

I couldn't find a way to send my thoughts to DaimlerChrysler so I sent the following to USA Today.



DaimlerChrysler should be ashamed of their Jeep ad that appeared on page 15A of the January 27th edition of USA Today.

Jeep changed Bill Mauldin's cartoon to meet its own political agenda. Is Jeep willing to rewrite history as well to make themselves feel better?

The cartoon should show the soldier holding a pistol, not a box of tissue.

The point is that the soldier is very upset that his reliable, trustworthy Jeep has finally failed and can not be fixed. The soldier is upset to have to "put the Jeep out of its misery."

Jeep should have left the cartoon as the Mr. Mauldin had drawn it.

You know that is very interesting. I was thumbing through a bunch of old Guns&Ammo magazines that my dad found while he was cleaning out the grage. They were ones I had bought back in 86-89.

Well what do I see but a sweepstakes offer form Jeep and COLT FIREARMS!!!!!!! Not Jeep and Kleenex tissues

Today's Jeep cartoon

Folks, I think that the tissues would be quite in order here. I don't think Jeep was trying to make a political statement save to say they and others like myself are sad about Bill's passing. Just my opinion though.

Path, that is the way I see the cartoon too. Expressing a feeling of loss with Mr. Mauldin's passing.

I don't think they wanted a repeat of the flap from their deer release ad a few years back.

The only thing that urks me about the new cartoon is, why did they have to label the box of tissues? What else would I have thought it was?

The jeep was not what died in this matter. I think they were pretty logical.
