Me and a buddy went deer hunting this morning and i had a pack of coyotes come up on me. I thought they were deer til i saw the first one leading and he was the biggest yote i have ever seen. I honestly thought it was a german shepard til i saw the tail and he looked straight up at me and i saw the eyes.

I then saw the three following out to the sides. One was solid black and i almost shot him.The leader spooked and took off backtracking while 2 went on straight.

I almost shot him because ive never seen one and was thinking about a mount. Anyway i called my buddy and told him what i saw. He was several hundred yards away.

5 minutes later i hear him shoot and i called and he said he shot it. I was talking to him standing up when i turn and see several doe coming head on. They passed where the yotes had been a few minutes before but didnt spook.

I also noticed one was a 3pt with one side broke off 2inches off the base. I almost passed him up but decided to shoot. He was about 60yds away and ran to the foot of the tree i was in and collapsed.

Up here in northwest washington, I dont belive they exist. You must be alot father east than I am. Anyway, down south the large, black coyote's are known as "coydogs". They have bred with dogs and created some large hybrids.

I have seen hundreds maybe thousands of coyotes in a lot of the west, and never seen a all black one so would say in my area of the world it is extremely rare.

Ive never seen one in the wild before.Only a mount. It wasnt as big as the first one though.

I have seen them down south, i even shot one , jet black, he came in to my turkey call for the third time, jumped up on a log and i gave him 2 oz of #6s, i dont think they are real rare at least not around here, csa

I have seen a black coyote that runs our farm in southern Indiana. It is a coydog without a doubt. I hope to get a shot at it soon. It would make a great mount.

I visited a taxadermist this weekend with one mounted in his trophy room. He claimed the head was sent to A&M for analysis and was certified pure coyote. It was pretty cool looking, with just a spot of white on the chest.

But then again, he had a deer with fangs and a werewolf head he had made. Who knows?

I shot one a few years ago running with a normal coloration coyote. I thought, at the time, he might be crossed up with dog or something. He looked a little different than a normal coyote, but about the same size, sorta bushier around the head and longer hair than normal, black as pitch.

There has been a big black one seen a at a hunting pal's land in west Tennessee, large tract of land no other dogs for miles but anthing is possible. He is after it as well.

I have seen one jet black coyote...........totally unlike the yodel dogs I've seen in Ariz. and old Mexico. Much, much larger, nearly the size of a small German shepard. Further, the others I've seen here in Central Florida in the Ocala Ntl. Forest were colored more like gray wolves than the tan and generally skinny coyotes out west..

The black one I saw was just about the size of one of my large Walker hounds that go about 55 pounds in running trim. I really thought the thing was a big dog until it took off!!!
