I removed the factory trigger setup and replaced it with a Jewell Trigger. When I close the bolt, the action does not remain cocked. I adjusted the three screws on the Jewell and cannot get the sear to remain set. I removed the Jewell and held the factory sear in place and worked the action. The bolt remains cocked until I rotate the sear and "fire" the mechanism. Holding the factory sear up to the Jewell, the size seems right (thinking I received the wrong trigger from Midway). No matter what position I have the three screws, the "sear" on top of the Jewell assembly can be pushed in with little effort.

Any hints? Am I just missing the obvious?:banghead: :cuss:

Problem resolved

After exploring all of my options, I did what I should have done from the beginning, I called Jewell  . The tech that I spoke with stated (with no pause for headscratching) that I should ensure that the cocking piece mechanism has enough clearance up through the Win receiver. I felt certain that I would have noticed if it had not, but I checked and the clearance was obvious on the sides, and seemed clear on the front & rear. Until, I noticed rubbing on the very front of the cocking piece. The front of the cocking piece is slanted and not straight up & down. The smallest percentage of an inch of clearance in the cocking piece not clearing the receiver was preventing the trigger mechanism from resetting after the sear engaged. With a little adjustment, I honed the receiver the width of a hair and VIOLA the trigger functioned:what: .

My amateur personal gunsmithing career just got a boot in the rear to not skip over A to get to D.....

Feel happy you own the best trigger money can buy. Make sure if you ever feel it needs to be cleaned and lubed to only use lighter fluid. Nothing more and nothing less. Or call Jewell and ask them what Arnold recommends.

Garddog223. How light are you setting your trigger. I used to be a highpower competitior and shot a built up Winchester 70 in .308. I used a Jewell trigger for a while but you can get an excellent and very crisp pull with the stock model 70 trigger. it takes a bit of stoning but properly done, they can be very crisp. As they say, like breaking glass.

Pull weight

Bob,
I set the Jewell at 2 lbs. The crispness of the Jewell is far greater, in my eyes, than the stock trigger. I switched to a Rifle Basix first, then moved on to the Jewell. I got what I paid for with the Rifle Basix  .
