I found a few of these on gunbroker, $100 start, no reserve...

I figure for that price they're either crap guns or trying to make a name... I've never heard of them, and the search didn't bring up much... Anyone own one?

Just looking for a cheap .22 for the wife to practice on, accuracy isn't the biggest concern, but if the thing is going to fall apart after 100rds, I'll pass.

Personally I would look for something else but that's just me. I believe those are in the category of junk guns but i have no personal experience with them.

If you want something inexpensive and decent I would look at something like an FEG or P64

If you want a cheap .22, Phoenix .22s actually have a decent reputation, as far as zinc junk goes. But I'd hold out for a used Ruger Mk.I/II/III, or Browning Buckmark.

Actually, that is 100% incorrect.
JIMENEZ ARMS bought the tooling and design rights at auction for JENNINGS/BRYCO products. Jimenez in Las Vegas currently produces modern versions using improved tooling of former Bruce Jennings designs: JA22, JA25, JA380 and JA-Nine.
COBRA ARMS is the company which bought the tooling and designs from the previous LORCIN, DAVIS, and REPUBLIC companies. They currently produce the former DAVIS derringers, .32 & .380 semi-autos, the former LORCIN .32 & .380 semi-autos, and the Patriot (Republic).
PHOENIX began by producing a copy of the old George Jennings RAVEN (hence their company name; they rose from the ashes of the Raven plant). Phoenix discontinued their Raven in favor of a .25acp version (HP-25) of their HP-22.

The single worst gun I'e ever owned was a Lorcin. It would fire once and jam. Slighty worse than the Tec 9 I later got in a trade which would fire 6 to 7 rounds before a jam. If a Jimenez is a Lorcin in disguise I'd rather have a good slingshot.

Lorcin's, Tec 9's and other craptastically manufactured guns have saved countless lives by jamming in drive by's.--So for that they should be thanked. Otherwise get yourself a decent gun.

Some of the old Bryco/Jennings aAms are now being made by Jimenez Arms, the old Davis, Lorcin, Talon and Republican Arms by Cobra Ent. and Phoenix Arms produced the Raven for a while.

I've owned all of these and by far the Raven and Bryco/Jennings performed and held up the best.

A Raven or Jennings/Jimenez J-22 beats a HP-22 in every way except maybe capacity.

I am not a gun snob. I love inexpensive firearms. I own several. I carried one (Bersa I bought for $175) as my primary CCW before I got my S&W 637.

There are some inexpensive or mid-priced guns that are decent, like the Bersa. It's not the most inexpensive firearm in the world, but certainly one of the best guns in its price range. It's cheaper than a handful of comparable guns.

Hi-Point is another "cheap" firearm that isn't necessarily junk. Hi-Points are large, ugly, and unsuitable for concealed carry. They're generally reliable, though... and Hi-Point has good customer service.

There are some cheap guns you should really just stay away from if you're looking for a good gun:

Davis
Jiminez

I'm sure the list should be longer, but I will leave it to others to warn you away from the rest of the crap brands!

First pistol I ever bought. JUNK. I did every trick in the book to make it reliable and it still sucked. About the 4th time shooting it it went full-auto on me, and I sold it back to the seller at a $30 loss.

Lots of decent, used .22's out there, like older Ruger Mk.I's and Mk.II's, Browning Buckmarks, and S&W Model 422 and 22A pistols. Most will run about twice what you would pay for the Jiminez, but all of them will still be going strong through several generations of shooters.
