I tried communicating with Mr. Ross a few years ago. It was rumored that he still had some unsold. Never was able to connect so I ended up acquiring a different X-frame.

He was always difficult to track down, that's what makes these guns so mysterious.

He commissioned 500 total in two variations and then expected them to sell themselves.

I am 30 so I may have missed the advertisement in 2007 or so however all the adverts I recall is a American Handgunner article, a gunblast with Jeff Quinn, and the guy from the best defense TV show. I found my original on castboolits.gunloads.com and communicated with John that way.

When I spoke with John in 2020 I pulled serial number 178 I believe. And he said he was selling numerically. HE STILL HAD A BUNCH.

He said they were sold to a private party and would not be listed for a period of time.

Some where out there is the holy grail of 500s and I hope this time they get the advertisement they deserve

I seem to remember a thread about his guns in the past couple of years and think he even commented on here. IF I remember right it was a back and forth thread on him not delivering a gun (or something along those lines) to a THR member.

That was me and another member who had the same issue.

That was what made getting my first John Ross so interesting.

I don't begrudge John, just on of those crazy things you run across in life..

John designed an amazing revolver that will stabilize any bullet weight I have put through it. I have only fired full bore loads through it mainly 350 grain Xtp and 700 grain Matt's bullets.

I remember that thread... I picked up a significantly lower serial numbered all stainless version, second hand, about 5 years ago.

I would never dream of EDC'ing it. Way too heavy and way way way too light of trigger for that. I think if you move it fast enough, the wind would set the trigger off!

I think a lot of people are turned off by the short barrel and no brake. But it sure is a handy gun for being so big.

OP, is that your pistol? Either way, the seller has some neat stuff. That Gibbs 45/70 Enfield is something I haven't seen for sale in over 15 years.

It's of the same variant to the one I have, I would like to find the all stainless version which I sold.

There are some cool pieces the seller has, I noticed the gibbs as well.

I can highly recommend these JR500s. They are extremely accurate. Mine is the stainless version, and is the most accurate revolver I own, And has a remarkably good trigger for an X frame. And it's actually carry-able .

How does the action and its consistency all the chambers compare to a standard X off the shelf?

I understand he had a piezoelectric transducer analyzer and has performed thousands of load and equipment testing. His collection of logbooks would be a very interesting read
