I'm considering buying a Johnson and need to know what quirks I would have. Anyone got any info? Thanks in advance.

I only ever found one for sale and they go for ungodly amounts of cash and shot one a few times. Thats when you can even find them. They are a great rifle. Nice and accurate and the kick to them is quite a bit milder than the M1 Garand. Biggest problem is all the little parts on them and finding replacements would be a pain in the arse.

I bought mine about a year ago. It's a Winfield conversion from the early sixties, i/e ramp front sight, no bayo lug. Shoots as good or better than my BM59. Very complicated to take down as there are a lot of small parts, and yes they are expensive due to the fact that only about 30,000 were made. Go to any gun auction site and you will find one or two listed in the $4000 to $7000 range if they are original military issue & in good condition. Bought mine as an investment, I shoot 308 because I like the round, it was cheap untill recently, and I have about the same invested in my M1A, BM59, & a little less in my M1 Tanker (yes I know it's not a real gun, but scoped in 308 it's a blast.

+1 on the "if you can find it" buy it. 308 shooter, what did you pay for yours if you dont mind me askin? Im sure alot less if it was converted from the original .30-06 to .308.... who would do such a thing to such a colletable :barf:
