Retting's in Culver City, California has a Johnson for sale. Didn't handle the rifle, but it looked gorgeous and clean.

Price Tag was $5500.00 :what:

This is the third Johnson that I have seen with my own eyes.

I know a dealer who goes to PA gun shows who had a table iwth Three Johnsons in a row, next to 3 or 4 G43's.

id like to hijack this thread and ask a question pretaining to the johnson rifle. I remeber watchign the history channel (perhaps mail call) and seeing a special forces version of it that had a peculior horizontally opposed magazine and was a matte black color. Does anyone have any information on this version. I tried surfing the net and came up with nothing?:scrutiny:

Some experimental Johnson rifles used a ten-round box magazine, but not side mounted.

The Johnson Light Machinegun uses a box magazine mounted on the left side, so that might be what you saw.

I have no idea why any Special Forces unit would have such an antique except as a museum piece. They were OK guns, but with no support, and no parts, trying to actually use one today would be folly.

IIRC, the group in question was some sort of joint US-Canadian Ranger-like mountain warfare group. They ultimately ended up fighting in Italy.
