After garnering a variety of opinions on a quality 1911 to be my first handgun, I put in an order for a Para Ordnance 1911 SSP and got it yesterday. Really nice gun for the money (I got a pretty nice deal I think). I love the look and classic single-action, single-stack of this model. Can't wait to get out there and give it a workout. :D

I do have to give credit to friends for showing me the ropes on the 1911 and letting me shoot with theirs. While it was the first handgun I'd ever shot and I was admittedly a little shakey with it, I did hit the target every time and really enjoyed the gun and the way it works. Great guns all around. I'm looking forward to shooting it, and taking care of it, for a long time to come.

Well, I got out on Friday and got to shoot it for a short amount of time. I was VERY pleased on the whole. I only got to put 9 mags through it, but it performed flawlessly.

I also need to mention that I am very much a range novice. In fact, yesterday was only my second trip to a range, and only the second time I've ever shot a 1911 (or more accurately, any handgun period). With that said, I was really happy with the way the gun worked, and the fact that I could put a very large number of my shots right through the center at a moderate 30' bodes well.

Here's my first pair of targets (the one on right were my first shots, left was obviously more consistent). I think that gun was shooting perfectly, and any errant shots were completely my doing. I did get a much better feel for the trigger (and my dry fire exercises at home [with snap caps] paid off too I think.)

In summary, I'm totally loving this gun. My only possible beef would be that the regal finish is showing a few scrapes already in a couple places (under the slide stop, and at the front of the slide) but really, I bought the gun to use it and shoot it, so I'm not horribly concerned with mild wear. I also have stripped and cleaned it twice and am pretty comfortable with that process already, which feels great.

Just wanted to share. :)
