JP introduces their new 9mm carbine

Awfully nice looking, and I bet it shoots great. I like that it takes Glock mags. Not that I have a Glock, it's just that they are quality mags available in large capacity.

As long as they don't want as much as an AR...

I do like blowback carbines. My favorite are the Camp Carbines, but Marlin stopped making 'em; why, I don't know. I had a Camp 45 I loved, but I sold it figuring I could get another at a reasonable price any time. WRONG!

I'd prefer the JP to be in .45acp, but 9mm is acceptable.

I'd really love it if someone took over manufacture of the M1 Carbine and offered them at reasonable prices.

My whole goal is to be able to have a centerfire rifle I can shoot without cycling on those lazy days. My bolt actions see a lot of work, but a good semi-auto rifle just shouldn't cost much more than a good semi-auto pistol.

It's the times we live in, I guess.

Josh

A nice design with all the right features, but vastly over-priced.

Fail.

$1500 for a pistol caliber carbine with probably a ton of proprietary parts, no thanks. I'm sure it shoots like a dream, but thats alot of dough for essentially a fun time range gun. Any serious defensive use carbine should be in a rifle caliber.

$1500.00. wow. I wonder what that weapon can do that a High-Point carbine (at a quarter of the cost) or a Beretta CX-4 (at slightly over half the cost) can't do?

The CX4 designed around a pistol caliber makes more sense than trying to adapt the AR that was designed around a rifle round.

Isn't the JR Carbine a cheaper version of the same thing?

I like it, but the price point is too much. Especially considering most PD's I know are dumping SMG's for AR's.

The only plus I see in this carbine over my Hi-Point 9mm and CX4 in .45 is the availability of high cap mags. I'll pass.

I applaud them for throwing another gun on the market, especially somethign that isn't a 1911 or ar15 with some bells and whistles. But isn't this just what lone wolf has been selling for a few years? (except for the charging handle) http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=285845

lone wolff upper and lower should run you about 1100. Maybe if a few other outfits will jump in the ring as well we can get that price down to around 800 or so. Pair it with a glock drum mag and you might have a winner. I wonder if they would take a slidefire stock as well?.......

I liked the entire idea of a 9mm AR carbine and built one a couple years ago. I was hoping it would be a good range gun and useful for hog hunting. Also a good HD platform

Well....when I got into it, I am sorry to say that IMHO, it fell down on all points. Especially for the cost.

Accuracy was only so so. JP site reports 3MOA, the TAB authors reports 2MOA, neither of which excite me at the range.

Looking at the ballistics of a 9mm round out of a 16 inch barrel....better than a handgun, but marginal for hunting IMHO (though many have reported using 9mm carbines for hunting).

The gun I built was heavier than the usual AR. It had a heavy magwell adapter and heavier barrel. So, it really was not all that great for HD. If I am going to use a 9mm for HD, I might as well reach for my SIG 226....it is just as effective at SD/HD distances.

And the expense. Whew.

SO....it turned out to be an expensive range plinker. FUN...no question about it...very fun to shoot 9mm in an AR platform...but you are really paying for that. Looking at the JP site, even if you just buy the upper and use your lower, you still need the magwell adapter and buffer. So, the cost is $1000.

I quickly sold it and got a 357 magnum lever gun much cheaper, and later a 30-30. Someone has already posted that there are dedicated pistol cal carbine designs for significantly less $.

Not to disparage this, or start a food fight. Just wanted to throw in some opinion from someone who had one. Exciting at first blush...but the infatuation fades quickly.

Hope this helps
