Judge: Public Defender

I have proven quite a few times this summer that one of my reasons for wanting The Judge (3'X3" im my case) is real valid: It just plain knocks the crap out of muskrats doing their best to screw up my pond. #4 shot at 5 yards swimming past the dock and it's been serious lights out. Kinda loud though after dark, though, I have to admit.

Fun is why I have bought a number of guns, and this one is fun.

I just bought one and love it!

My brotherinlaw has had his taurus judge for several years now. To be honest, I thought it was a little big for a personal defense gun. It was however, really fun to shoot! A few weeks ago, I shot his soninlaw's 3" cylinder judge. It was great plinking with 45 colt at 25 yards. I told him that even though it's fun, that it wasn't very practical for me because it was just too big to slip in my pocket for CC when hiking or traveling. He then told me about the new Public Defender model that would fit in my pocket. I all but called him a liar in disbelief. Sure...I said. Well just so happens that the local gun shop had one while I was window shopping for a good CC revolver. After slipping it in my jeans front pocket I was hooked. The following Monday, after haggling with my wife, I bought it. I've been to the range several times since, and while it's no target pistol, it happily sends my 45 schofield and 45 LC reloads and every 410 faithfully to the paper target. The 000 bucks are my favorite so far and I can't wait try out my new 4 pellet 000 federal judge ammo. I was amazed at how fast you can fire 5 rounds of 000 or slugs...I bet faster than 5 rounds from any of my 1911s. It's really cool to see the fire that comes out while shooting rifled slugs. I don't know the velocity, but they feel hotter than anything else I've sent out of a pistol. Bottom line - I keep it in my pocket whenever possible short of being on federal property.

Me and my THUNDER

I use a MIL THUNDER FIVE of Piney Flats, TN. She is the clone of the Holston Spectre Five of Jonesborough, TN and was distributed by C.L. Reedy. She was built from 1994 to 1998 and are considered an exotic rarity as production numbers began at #1101 and only 3000 where built. Thunders are single and double-action revolvers. They weight in at 48oz with 2 inch rifled barrel and Pachmayr grips. This revolver can chamber anything that fits 45LC/.410 shells.

I've fired just about everything thru her including hammerhead dumdum's, buck, flechettes, bonded sabot-slugs, and varying cowboy loads. My personal favorite are "flamethrowers" that set afire anything to 50' including varmits. Her heavy frame and cylinder handles everything. I've also fired a45-70 as well. But, I have no future plans of doing that shot over ever again:cool:.

Occasionally they show up on Gunbroker. They normally sell for $500. If you come across an authentic Holston Spectre Five, it is a proto-type and extremely rare and worthy of a fine display in a collector's case.

Judge... Public Defender
A Public Defender isn't someone I would seek out for legal advice or council; wouldn't want one to defend me. Makes me wonder why someone would name a gun after lawyers of notoriously dubious quality.
