I started a thread in general handgun, about shooting at 50 and 100 yards, open sights, 5 shots on paper - called "Fun Shoot" - just a way to kill the boredom, and maybe see how we can do compared to Wild Bill.

I am going to try to shoot it with both a .357 and a 1851 in .44 (dont have a 36 yet, but looking). 5 rounds at 50 and or 100, measure it, take a picture and post it.

Was wondering if anyone had an interest in trying it with their BP revolvers? I don't really care what it is, 1851, 60, .36 or .44, 1858, this is just for fun and the winner gets 100 points (the points are not worth anything, but, you can use them for bragging rights).

This sounds like fun. Unfortunately the shooting season is about over in my area. The temperature is forecast to be about 100 for the next week. Also the fire hazard is extremely high. I hope that several people are able to enjoy this.

I'm in the same desert Lyle is so I won't be trying this either, although I did it years ago.

If you want to really duplicate what Hickok did in defeating Dave Tutt at Springfield, MO in 1865, put up a plane silhouette target (Tutt didn't have scoring rings on his vest) and fire one shot at 75 yards. If you don't put one in the center of the chest, you loose!

That sounds like it will be fun to try. Something to look forward to this Fall. 75 yards is a distance that I frequently shoot at, not good enough to pass the test.

I went with 50 or a hundred as many ranges don’t have a 75 yard option. Now if your just out in the desert then that would not matter.

I just thought it might be fun with a BP revolver.

Absolutely fun! I don’t go to a range, I go to the desert and shoot to relax.

As Doc Holliday said, “This is just my game.” Three cylinders from my Walker (5 yards short of your 50 requirement). At 100 yards, I can generally place four out of six in the head of a human silhouette target with this revolver. My local deer population curse my 3rd Colt Dragoon as well.
