It was a long few days but I was able to build a 12x15 foot deck off of the original shooting shed (7x10), add a roof and tie it into the shed, bench(s), rehab the pistol range and redo the rifle range backstop (old foundation, back wall had fallen down over time so a bunch of stone work) followed by a new backstop/target holder.

The previous owner use to shoot out of the shed, too cramped for me, I prefer to be outdoors but do like some cover (mostly for the range bags/guns etc)

About done, I used clear roof panels for extra light it would let in

Closer look at target holder, 6x6 construction with 'vents' to allow some action targets such as clays, cans (as seen) etc. as the wood gets shot up, it can easily be exchanged with the removal of 2 lags

target board placed, has a 6x6 on the back that fits into any of 3 slots as needed

Side view of target stand, it has 3 hanging 3/4" 4x6' rubber mats inside and one on top, 2 smaller 3x4' on each side to cut down/stop ricochets. These just clip in and can be exchanged as needed, side panels can be flipped up for access

Just need to mount the 22 caliber spinner/reset target off to right side (that is why lowest 6x6 is longer and some finish work on deck along with a ceiling fan (bug control)

Nice,
Now pile some dirt over that bare rock backstop, and you will be good to go!

Nice work! Anything that keeps the brass in an area easy to sweep up is great. Not sure where you live but this looks like a great place. Jealous for sure. I had always dreamed of retiring to a place like that and now I am ready but................

Very nice. One of my near term goals is to acquire 40+ acres in north central florida (about 5 hrs away from Miami) for a weekend retreat / personal range. I might start a new thread requesting photos of personal ranges. My youtube heroes with personal ranges are Hickok45 and Big Daddy "now thats what im talkin about" Hoffman. Mmm...mmmm...mmmm:D

Wow! Nice!

You've got power for lighting...but I don't see a fridge.

Them hot summer days call for a fridge for drinks. And sammiches...this way you don't have to go back inside to eat.

And a spiggot would work great for water needs, be it washing hands or lawn work.

:):)

(Don't mind me, really...I'm always thinking of ways to doctor up and tweek things.)

Thx guys. I will let u know how it works. I need to put some stairs on deck, touch up a few details, mount the 22 action target, ceiling fan as note, move the wood stove into position(outdoor), etc. The shed will also double as storage for my VERY amature blacksmith stuff and casting stuff. I won't keep the blocks/molds out there due to rust.

Looks fantastic with a lot of well thought out designs built in. Definitely a homemade range paradise!

Nice job but I would agree with others about covering the rocks with dirt (edit: I see you have thick rubber hanging down ... awesome!!) I've got a 200 yard range at my house (100 yards off rear deck, 200 yards from front of property) but it's not as fancy as yours. I used tires filled with dirt as a backstop which are stacked up in front of a mud bank in the bend of a creek. I've yet to have any bullet make it through the tires and hit the bank.

That's certainly creative, way to go! It looks like you have plenty shade so the clear roof panels will help. Congrats on your range.

There are 3 mats hanging, they weigh about 130lbs each. Previous owner just used the rock, mats should be enough out on the back 40. Will change if needed

Well, I have been using the range, took some pics today. I mounted a scope on a new-to-me 22wmr, martini action.

I didn't include this in earlier post, this is prior to build.

The backstop has been great, rounds drop right down to bottom for easy collection. They haven't made it past the first mat and there are 5. I have only used up to 223. I don't plan to shoot my 338 lapua or BMG at this range as even though I have 40+ acres, they are touch obnoxious in the sound department. I will shoot them at my club range.

Lol, got a neighbor who shoots there when he wants. He hunts on TV for a living so he is welcoming o the range
