Another Boring day at the range with the .50 Beo........

:neener:Took a few toys to the Pima Pistol Range here in Az. I shot the .50 Beo, a Rock River Arms Varmint A4 20" , SAVAGE 12BVSS .223 LONG RANGE SHORT ACTION and a ASA-9MM AR-15 Rifle M4 Carbine.......
The Beo was loaded with 275gr Rainer JHP's and FMJ, I like the JHP's, don't care for the FMJ. Just thought I would try them. They do not shoot to the same POI but it’s so close it really wouldn’t matter. I tried to loads. 275Gr JHP/FMJ over 38 Gr Lil Gun and the same bullets over 35.8Gr Lil Gun. The 35.8 seem to have less flyers than the 38grs. The Beo behaved nicely today, no misfires at all. Not one........It seems to have gotten that out of its system.

In the .223's I shot the Sierra 77Gr OT BTHP Match over 24 Gr Varget. The RRA has a 1in8" twist and the Savage is advertized as 1in9"

Looks like you had fun Sarge,It looks like the 50 Beowulf is shooting well.
I also have a RRA 20" varminter, and it's a shooter.I have better luck with H335,and BL-C(2) powders than I do with Varget shooting anything over 69gr bullets out of it.
Looks like the Savage likes the 77 grainers. Nice shooting and report Sarge!

Is that a PMag in the 50? I thought they needed special mags....or are you single loading?

I envy the fun you had today. I haven't been to the range in a month! I'd like to ask you, can I simply buy a .50 Beo upper for my AR15, or does it require a different lower?

Yes it is a P-mag..........

Only thing you need to do is take off the little triangle tab at the front of the mag body so it won't catch on the HP's......All it takes is a .50 Upper to have fun..........You will need to reload the stuff too. I have not fired a factory round ever........in over I guess almost 800 rounds or so. It was a little finicky at first........I was getting light primer strikes. I wasn't over crimping as some have suggested. You couldn't even see a crimp. I was using a taper crimp die anyway......I have used C-Product mag. Colt factory mags without any problems. Some say you need to open up the feed lips a bit but I think it depends on the magazines. A 20 rounder will hold 7 rounds of .50 Beo but I load 5-6 because the rounds will start to dip nose down a bit.......

"The design of the .50 Beowulf allows standard AR-15 magazines to be used with slight modifications to the feed lips. Surplus high-capacity magazines can be modified easily for use with the .50 Beowulf."

"The 50 Beowulf is designed to single stack in existing .223 magazines and requires no special inserts or adapters. The only modification is that the magazine lips may require slight reshaping in certain magazines to ensure feed reliability.

.50 Beowulf comes with its own uniquely designed single stack, seven round mag which incorporates special features to limit .223 use to 10 rounds. .50 Beowulf can also be used in some other manufactures standard .223 mags."
