well a local pawn shop was having a gun auction today... guns were going VERY VERY cheap..... 120 guns were supposed to be auctioned, but after about 50 the auctioneer who was also an employee of the place stopped the auction. guns were selling for $25. no kidding.. remington 870s and mossberg 500s were goin for anywhere from $60-100. i think the highest selling gun was an sks that was scoped and had a tactical stock sold for like $140.... i got out of there with a marlin 22 mag( i already have one similiar) but it was $45. i did end up with my 1st Mosin Nagant. after the auction i went in to pay and asked the guy about it. he told me $90 so i snatched it up. its a russian made in 1945 M44. its in excellent shape with matching numbers and sling. they had another go in the auction i think for around 50 but it was kinda beat up. im pretty new to these, and made the purchase mainly from reading about them here on thr. i will clean them up and try to get some pics later.

The wood on that M44 looks excellent, perhaps that rifle has spent most of its life locked up somewhere in an arsenal/ammo dump.

I'm guessing Carpentersville is where they refurbished the rifle.

The original stampings should be on top of the receiver behind the rear sight. Most likely your M44 was made in Izhevsk Arsenal. (Home of Kalashnikov) so there should be some kind of pictogram of a triangle with an arrow inside. It is the symbol for Izhevsk arsenal. Since you said your rifle was made in 1945, on the gun it should say, "1945 Г" or 1945 ГОДА which means "the year 1945."

I personally think that the weapons of the Ruskies are under appreciated.

I know I can't wait to get my Mosin 91/30

thanks guys. i bought 150rds for the mosin last night online, and can't wait to get it out. just after handling it last night i already want another. haha i guess mosins are like 870s and CZs hard to have only one.

I went to several auctions -HI selling prices and when I did buy several guns I ended up paying more that I could resell them for and One was broken I still have it and cant get rid of it .
R=Guns -Was one of the worst offenders of the PRICE GOUGING ON AFTER THE BILLY BAN, Selling cobray mags at $50.00 bucks a pop and telling us -Last ones ever buy now--It seemed they turned on the injection moulding machine at midnight and spit out a few thousand extras now and then-When the ban ended they had thousands and thousands of mags suddenly back to 19.95..I wont do business with the gas station who shafted us during the carter gas chrisis -I wount do business with R_GUNS eater..

call me bitter for a different reason. I go to auctions quite a bit, and witness first hand the underhanded legerdemain and trickery of the shister auctioneers. My question would be how do you ethically stop an auction a guy drove hundreds of miles to attend because you, the auctioneer, isn't getting the prices you want?

I know, I know, all the "businessman" honks'll come out the woodwork telling me how it's his "right" to manipulate. I still think it's sleazy.

A LOT of people were mad.(one guy in particular threatened to retract all of his bids, and the auctioneer then told him to never come back. very poor business there..) there were only maybe 20-25 people there bidding total. the thing to do would have been to put a reserve on them if they had to have a certain price. more than 1 gun went for $25(yes they may have been on old H and R single shots, but still.) i kept track of the going prices but left the sheet on the counter when i was checking out. i remember for sure a mossberg 500 going for 60. there was a remington 870 with a rifle sighted smooth barrel go for 95. there was a remington 870 20 gauge that went for i think $110 in really nice shape. i will still frequent the shop, they are one of the few around that you can really negotiate a good price with.

Any auction with a reserve is bogus. The whole premise of an auction is that the demand or lack of demand from potential buyers sets the price. If the seller says they will only sell it for more than a certain price that means the buyers will be paying retail and up. What's the point in that?

Gun Auction

Nice looking guns! Can't beat the prices. I go to that pawn shop all the time. They're jerks for stopping the auction like that. I was trying to sneak over there, but by the time I had gotten over there it was already over. I think they were just trying to tap in on deer season. If they couldn't get what they wanted out of them while having them in the store, why would they think they would get what they wanted at an "overstock" auction?
