From Cabela's of all places! I was up their to get some fishing stuff and figured I'd head to the gun section to grab a box of .22 since it was on sale. I stopped by the milsurp rack to check out what they have, usualy its just overpriced junk. They had a lot of K31's but the Swiss beavers got them, nothing really interesting, metalwork was kind of beat too. Prices were so so, than I saw something a lot longer, it was a K11. The wood is quite good, the metal is also pretty nice with the usual wear for a 100 year old rifle. But no real abuse marks, they were asking $315. So I start talking to one of the guys that works their and ask to look down the bore. So he cuts away the zip tie and hands me a bore light, I look down the muzzle and am like hmm that looks good. Pop the bolt out and look through the breach up towards the light and I'm like WOW! It looks like it was never shot. I was expecting a nice bore, but not that nice! I just got it home and put a patch down it, grease! It was greased with waffenfett, the second patch down was perfectly clean, now it really looks like a brand new barrel! I don't think this rifle has been shot since it left Switzerland!:D:cool:

I'm off to the range to shoot my new favorite toy, I'll post pictures when I get back.:D

Don't you mean a model 1911 rifle? The K11 is the same length as the K31 and much scarcer than the 1911 rifles. Cabela's in LaVista Nebraska had a number of 1911 rifles for sale recently.

Yep, if it's longer than a K31, it's a 1911 or 96/11 long rifle. Either way, we're going to want piiiiiicccccttttuuuuurrrrrrrreeeessss!

Yeah sorry about that your right its the model 1911, they had a K11 but it was beat.

I'll post pictures tomarrow, I shot it this afternoon and gave it a good cleaning, its my new favorite bolt rifle. Its built a lot better than the K31, and shoots better, and seems to be more accurite.

Underneath the wood the metal is like brand freaken new, I was chipping hard grease out of the stock, I really don't think this thing was shot much at all. For going on 100 years old its in really good shape, couldn't be more happy with my purchase!

How do the sights work on these things, the first gradient is 300 meters, but their are markings on the side of the site that look like they might be for closer work? I shoot at 70 so I was going a bit high at 300.

Last Shmidt-Rubin 1911 I bought was in great shape! I bought it at a flea market for .....$35.00! My brother traded it for a beagle that wouldn't hunt and ran away after 3 days!

The more I look at this rifle the more I like it, I broke it down today and cleaned it.

Even though its older than the K31 I think its a better rifle, let me explain.

Firstly the barrel is more free floated. The action is mounted at its base, and at the end of the stock they use a brass bushing between the barrel and stock. In between their is not barrel to stock contact. Its pretty much a free floated barrel.

I think the 1911 bolt while longer is a better design. The reason I say this is that on the 1911 rilfe you can take down the firing pin and spring, on the 1931 design you cannot. So this way if the firing pin spring breaks in the field on the 1911 rifle you can replace that, not so on the newer one.

The trigger on the 1911 rifle is also simpler and I don't feel its any better or worse than the K31 trigger in terms of feel.

I'm just amazed at how good this almost 100 year old rifle is, I want to bring it to the Appleseed now. I'm confident it can keep up with most modern bolt guns.
