Just bought a new HK P2000 and have a question...

Hey all!

So I got a pretty good deal on an HK P2000 earlier today (unfired, night sights, and everything included for $700 OTD). I have a question though:

-For those who have purchased a new HK, did it require a break in period for it to run everything well? My gun thus far has been somewhat picky, not liking weaker loads but running flawlessly on more powerful loads. I suspect it may be a break in period, but I can't be sure. At least it runs my carry ammo well. Any other experiences?

American bulk 9mm is notoriously underloaded and will often fail to fully operate European pistols

I don't own HK but it seems to me that it could need break in... One way to speed this up is to leave it with the slide lock back for awhile. This pulls the springs and can help break them in quicker.

I've never needed a break in period for any HK I have owned. I suggest you change ammo or get your gun fixed. HK's are not typically finicky or unreliable.

I had a 5 stoppages in the first 375 rounds with my 9mm P2000. The recommendation from the HKPro forum was to try some hotter ammunition. I fired 200 rounds of Federal M882. It has worked with everything else since - 4400 rounds with no stoppages.

The HK will do well if you get some slightly hotter ammo such as Fiocchi and shoot a couple hundred rounds through the gun. ( It was designed initially for NATO spec. as I understand it.) The spring will limber up. I didn't have to do this with my P2000 but it definitely made a difference with my P30 which never had a problem after the Fiocchi. Just my experience. YMMV.

Yes, shoot 100-150 rounds of 124gr NATO WWB first. HK 9mm recoil springs are known to need breaking with higher power rounds. After that, you can shoot standard 115gr target ammo
