like the title says, i need load recommendations for some "light" 454 loads....

please be aware that i am looking for recommendations for factory loads, as i am not a reloader...i am well aware that i will be getting gouged by the price of 454 ammo....i realize reloading would save me oodles of cash, but for this thread, please stick to factory loads...

i stand about 5'9", 140lbs, but i can handle recoil pretty well....i can comfortably shoot 44 magnums through DA revolvers with nice rubber grips, and i have a SA ruger bisley hunter that i shoot very well.....

44 magnum recoil is stout, but not painful.....i admit that the 44 magnum ammo i have fired is all standard loads.....no corbons, or garrett, or buffalo bore.....just standard remington, federal, winchester, etc.....

what i need is some 454 ammo that is close in recoil to the loads i have been shooting.....i realize that 454 is on a different level, so i understand there will be an increase, but please give me examples of what size bullets i should be looking for and what name brands i should try.....

also, some recommendations for some hot 45 colt loads would also be appreciated.....thanks....

A 44 mag power type load is the Winchester:

Of course, you can shoot all 45 Colt loads through your Alaskan. Just make sure you clean out the carbon/lead ring afterwards. Very easy with a bronze bristle brush and copper chore boy attached. Mine likes the medium and hot loads better. Reloading is ideal in this cartridge! I shoot 240 and up with a preference for 255 and 270gr. up through 340gr. I shoot lead and shoot it moderately for practice. That is about 1300fps. Check out Midway's offerings. I suppose you pay for what you get, but it does seem like there is a real premium for the hardcast Buffalo bore.

The lighter bullets will give lower recoil ! In a factory load the lightest I have seen is the 240 grain ! Now that I think of it the Winchester 250 grain load is a lower power load than their other offferings ! Kevin
