After a few years of prodding, my wife finally got her own gun. A S&W 642 Airweight WITH the laser sight option. I wanted her to get a Beretta 85 or a Sig 232, but she liked the revolver and you know, its probably the best choice for her. Boy is it light! I could get used to carrying something this light and comfortable. Seems well made with a nice trigger. We're going to the range today in preperation for her taking a course. Should be interesting.

Mine has become my favorite carry gun. Is it pleasant to shoot? Absolutely not, especially with carry loads (I use the traditional 158gr LSWCHP +P). Of course, I opted for the smaller bootgrip style crimson trace grips (makes the felt recoil much worse). I imagine the rubber overmolded version (which is what comes on the factory laser package) would make the gun relatively pleasant to shoot. Centennial style revolvers are my absolute favorite.

I got a 15 ounce 442 and really felt it with every shot, so I sold it as soon as I could. I do plan to get a 640, which is heavier and should cushion the hand better against the recoil. No more light guns for me, thanks. I'll be interested in hearing how your wife liked shooting this gun.

642 and 637 are great carry guns

Purchased both the 642 and 637. Both are accurate at "working" distance and reliable as all get out. Always keep one in a jacket pocket.

I'll be intereseted in seeing how she likes it too. I may end up with it. That's why today I was scoping out Bersa Thunder/Firestorms and Ruger SP101's. We'll see. I think she'll be fine with it, as a carry gun and she can shoot lots of mine at the range for practice with a session with hers as well. Looks like we won't be able to get to the range till later this week and I'll report back then.

I have a S&W 640 and a S&W 642. I like them both but the 640 is easier to shoot due to it's weight. For carry I like the S&W 642 due to it's weight. If you can't have everything you buy 'em both.

If her carry method allows for the extra size, get her a set of Pachmayr Presentation grips. With these the little beast points more naturally, and the recoil is much easier to handle.
