Hello everyone, I just picked up the Savage 110 .308. I was wondering about a scout mount for it and if a scout mount would be ok for a new hunter. I figure it might add more of a unique cool factor to the already cool rifle. I have never dealt with a scout mount at all so I'm not sure.

The rifles just like this one, minus the POS scope.

I have a Swift 4X32 pistol scope like this,

If the scout mount isn't a good idea, I was thinking on a fixed powered Weaver (4X or 6X) or one of the 2X7-32 Redfields.

you'll want to try a scout set up first - they take a little gettin' used to, and eye relief can be super critical.

probably best to just go traditional scope.

Low power scout scopes are pretty cool. I've been using a NC STAR 2-7x32mm IR on my Mosin Scout rifle setup and it works very well and the eye relief is perfect. The NcSTAR brand isn't the best but i've seen others in the $200 range that were worse!

The scout set up is best used with both eyes open, you can aquire the sight picture , and bring the gun to bear faster.

Most scope users are one eye shooters, and have to relearn to use the scout scope.

It will frustrate the young lad if he can't see the reticle at dawn/dusk. I have heard that having the scope further away takes away from your ability to see even a duplex reticle very well in low-light scenarios. When using a scout scope for hunting, maybe a heavy-duplex would be better.
