Have a couple of different versions of ammo to test which do you think will work the best?

Do you guys think I should try some other sort of ammo if so what?

Hopefully I will be able to get out this weekend and see which ammo it likes. I will be posting a review at http://www.dayattherange.com

Looks like your squared away for your testing with most quality labels. Just besure to fire 20 rounds of each label before desideing if it shoots well. Wolf/sk atleast does not work as well in cold weather as it does when warm unless you roll it on a cloth to get some of the lube off too. Atleast thats what I have seen in cold weather. Have you use champion shooters supply for ammo?? You can buy from several lot#s and when you find the one you like best then buy from that lot. can't do that buying from normal suppiers. Some times changeing ammo lot # can kill group size. Federals 922A is loaded by rws like lapua loads for wolf/sk. Sure you know that allready but just in case. Good luck with shooting tiny groups. Nice rifle.

Nice looking build, good luck with tiny groups.

CCI Standard Velocity is preferred for accuracy and reliability.

The cheapest .22lr I like is Federal Champion.

Not much 10/22 left in that 10/22!

Nice gun.

Looks like you've got plenty of choices to keep you busy for a while.

Don't forget to share your groups with us.

Try all the ammo and compare. What shoots well in one, doesnt necessarily in another, but the top brands seem to be consistent. Very nice looking 10/22, btw....similar to how I want mine to look when funds allow me to finish it.

I built up a Ruger 10-22 last year. Free floated bull barrel, trigger job, shaved the bolt face down a bit, big scope, installed lock screws in the receiver to lock the trigger unit in place, recoil damper. (For the bolt, not for me!!), springs, etc.

I tried several different brands of ammo and several types of those brands. I zeroed the rifle for 75 yards with Vipers. They seemed pretty accurate with my set up at the range that I wanted.

Then I tried some different ones at that same range. They were Aguila Super Maximun's. Not even on the paper!!! I fired ten rounds and they never even showed up on the target...I thought! I'm staring at the target thru the spotting scope set on high power. Just when I'm ready to throw the rest of the rounds in the garbage, I see something at the very top edge of the target. A pattern of holes. I reset the spotting scope and take a closer look. A nice tight pattern at the top of the target...tighter than anything else that I had fired with that rifle but way high.

I re-zeroed the scope for that ammo and that's all I've been using in that rifle since. Tight patterns and very high velocity. They're flying at almost 1800 FPS. They get blown around some by the wind or even gnats in the line of fire but they work for me in that rifle. Keep yer powder dry, Mac.

For plinking and casualo shooting I like Federal Auto pistol target bulk packs.

This is a pic of the ones I built with Ruger receivers for my father (the red one) and I (the blue one), and they look very similiar to your build. I love the Kidd triggers. They both like Wolf the best, but shoot most anything well. Also built a pink one for my wife using no Ruger parts, and it is not picky at all if you sight it in for a quality ammo it is good to go.

Nice group of parts you've got there!

You might well find that barrel shoots cheaper stuff pretty darn well. Kidd's are known for that.

Didn't even start as a 10/22 :) I did not buy a 10/22 to rebuild this is built from scratch with after market parts.

Mr.Revolver;

In my experience, there is no such thing as a "guaranteed" ammo for .22 rimfire. I see no Winchester ammo in the picture, so it may pay a dividend to aquire some if nothing in your current collection shoots well enough. I've found that not only does brand make a difference, but types within that brand can show very sizeable differences in accuracy from the same gun. I've also seen two guns from the same manufactureer, with relatively close S/N's, exhibit completely different appetities for preferred ammo.

Very generally speaking, I've found that the super-speed stuff doesn't give the accuracy I want, but your results may vary.

You will have to explore the various ammos and find what your rifle likes! For plinking, mine does very well with CCI SV. For those serious days Midas +...

Various premium brands have worked well in mine.....but, oddly enough, (after 10 break-in rounds) 10 rounds of Remington Cyclone shoots only 1/2" larger group at 30 yds.....and can you find anything cheaper?!

But it doesn't shoot worth beans in a couple of other rifles.....so it just goes to show, try everything.

Win 40-grain Power Point HP

The most consistently-accurate 22 LR hunting ammo that I have found is Winchester 40-grain Hollow Point. Not 37-grain, not 36 grain, but ONLY the 40-grain Win. Hollow Point, which also says "Power Point" on the box. It has the added bonus of being more powerful than most of the other loads. It definitely anchors prairie dogs at 100 yards better than any other 22 LR ammo I have tried, even better than the hyper-velocity rounds. Try it!

If I were a betting man, I would put my money on the Eley Tenex I saw in one of the photos as being the most accurate.

If memory serves me right, and sometimes it does, that ammo has won more Olympic Gold Medals than any other ammo.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

We have two bully 10/22's and they both like the cheap Remington that you can get at Wallyworld for $20 bucks a brick.

MrRevolver;

I quite firmly agree with Applepie. If your gun likes it, it's very effective in the field. But, it's also very, very close to being as accurate as much higher priced pure target ammo in three guns I own.
