I'm setting up my 9mm dies again on my Lee Loadmaster (no idea why I took the dies out of the head in the first place). I have a factory crimp die. That means I don't have to use the crimping function on the bullet seater/crimping die right? Just back the die out until it no longer crimps and then adjust the bullet seating knob part of the die to seat to OAL correct? That's what I think I did before. This getting older and loosing your memory is no fun.

100% correct!

Yep, but I use a standard taper crimp die to deflare my semi-auto handloads...

You are remembering correctly. Congrats!

Alternatively, you can use the seating die to taper crimp lightly and then use the FCD to smooth the taper and tighten the crimp. That's what I do just so they don't reseat if I drop one. Which happens sometimes. And sometimes it happens a lot.

WOW! Now if I could just remember what I have in my bank account I would be happy. Thank you all for your help.

Captain Quack.
