It's called Havana...anyone who's read the Earl Swagger books will like it...I've read all Hunter's books over the last couple of years and it's cool to have them all relate to eachother.....knowing what takes place in the BobLee books ,it's cool to see how he gets into shooting as a kid too..I recommend it highly...a quick read with lots of action.(and Frenchy Short too,the bastard!!)
Earl uses a "super .38" in the book(Hunter explains it in the acknowledgments at the end)...;)

I'll second that, all the Stephen Hunter books I've read are very good, both in general and in the firearms area

Tony, you had me all excited about a new book. I read Havana about 6 months ago. Great book. Hunter is definately my favorite fiction writer and does a great job with the accuracy regarding weapons.

Just finished "Dirty White Boys" after "Point of Impact". Definately worth a read.

I think he does a good job with the number of pages he's allocated for himself and for the genre he's working with.

Your local library probably has a selection of his books if you don't feel like committing to a purchase right now.

I'm just finishing up Point of Impact....I read Dirty White Boys many years ago but will have to go back and read it again so that it's in context.

Good, fun books so far.....

Ah yes, Pale Horse Coming, staring Elmer Keith, Bill Jordan, Charles Askins and a few other big name old time shooters in very thin disguises.

The order they go in is:

1.Point of Impact
2.Dirty White Boys
3.Black Light
4.Time to Hunt
5.Hot Springs
6.Pale Horse Coming
7.Havana

but they can all be enjoyed by themselves and the last three could even be called prequels to the first four.

as for his "non-Swagger" books, The Master Sniper is slightly related to #3 and #7 and Dirty White Boys is so closely linked that I'd include it in the Swagger Saga.

Background and references - - -

I’ve somewhere read an interview with the author where he acknowledges certain continuity problems between the Swagger books - - He tries to square some these in subsequent books, but admits that his followers will simply have to live with some others. I, for one, am willing . . .

Frankly, I have little problem with the history of Bob Lee Swagger and his father, Earl Swagger. I am a bit more concerned about Frenchy Short. I finally made the decision to consider this either an uncle-nephew thing, because the story lines are WAY too separate for the Short character’s age to be consistent in all the books where he’s referenced. ;)

BTW, item number 44, on third acreen of the above search results, "my full interview with stephen hunter." from "dave edelman's home on the web" - - this contains some rather coarse language and also some plot spoilers, in case you've not read the Hunter books.

Best,
Johnny
