Will, Dirty White Boys is an Earl story. If you've read Black Light, you'll understand.

I just finished "Havana" and I really enjoyed it. I know a lot of Hunter fans don't care for it for some reason, but I liked it.

It's not that I didn't like Havana, it's just that it seems like Hunter cut it short like he was late for his deadline. There were so many sub-plots and characters that were left undeveloped. The book could have been twice as long. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it very much, I just felt like there could have been so much more.

I have read all of Hunters books, and it's not an Earl story. The tip off might be the fact the characters name in the book is Trooper Bud Pewtie. I have always assumed Hunter got the basic character for Earl, from Pewtie as they are very similar, and it's easy enough to remember it as an Earl story, but it aint:

"Dirty White Boys is a vivid and violent novel by American author Stephen Hunter. The story begins with the escape of Hunter's brutal antagonist, Lamar Pye, and two other accomplices, from a penitentiary in the mid-western USA and continues as Lamar encounters highway patrol officer Bud Pewtie."

"is Earl's son."

I'm not following you. Bad guy is Lamar Pye in DWB's. Earl's son is Bob Lee. A joke perhaps?

Lamar is Earl’s illegitimate son; making him Bob Lee’s half brother. It’s explained in “Black Light”. Even with that connection, you can’t call “Dirty White Boy’s” an Earl story any more than you can call it a Bob Lee story.

I read Black Light when it came out, and don't remember that at all. Interesting. Hell, might need to read the entire series again! Agreed however, it's simply not an Earl Swagger story. Cool that he connected the two characters and books.
