WOW! 15 replies and no one has suggested an AR!

A few years ago a coworker bought a Tikka in .308 and brought it to my house to sight it in. Whether shooting factory or handloads the rifle was incrediby accurate easily grouping .5 moa and under @ 100 yds.

Good luck with your choice.

:D Yeah I was amazed it went so far with out a "get a AR" remark.
AR10 AR15. Why do they bother making other types of guns?

Well in the first post the original poster listed 4 options:
1.) New Remington 700 vtr camo 308 $625 otd.
2.) New Browning a-bolt ii medallion 22-250 (beautiful) $705 otd.
3.) Used like new Browning x-bolt 308 with leupold 3-9×40 mounted. $748 otd.
4.) New Tikka t3 hunter (wood) 260rem. $680 otd.

I don't see an AR in there? Thus I never considered suggesting an AR which it turns out the original poster has and is looking to get rid of.

I'm not sure what the O.P. means by a nice rifle. If he means deep polished blue finish and well figured walnut stock than to me he means a pretty rifle.

For hogs I really like the Savage Hog Hunter as I consider iron sights a real plus. In .223 and a scope will put prairie dogs and yotes in danger.

As stated before #3 fits the budget, however, the Tikka in .260 makes me salivate. Have heard good things about the rifle and the round. The other option would be building an AR and using the Barnes TSX rounds for the hog hunting. Would be fun to target shoot, good for follow up shots on coyotes and also adequate for hogs. Let us know what you get and how it shoots.

Ok, I sold my rifle for $800 on the nose. I have my choices norrowed down to 2.
1.) The new remington 700 vtr 308/223 in atacs camo $600+25 ffl+25 weaver bases and rings+147 nikon prostaff 4-12×40 scope for a grand total of $797.

2.) Used as new Browning xbolt composite stalker 308 with leupold 3-9x40 vx-1 scope mounted. $748 including shipping and ffl+ 25 for box of shells+25 for hornady american series dies. For a grand total of $798.

Seems like you might be rolling the dice a bit getting a new Remington 700. There have been quite a few complaints about quality and subsequently customer service popping up in the last few years. Beyond that, I've only had one 700, but I don't really like the design as much as several other readily available rifles out there like the Win 70, X-Bolts, Tikkas and Howas. Your mileage may vary.
