With my Remington and colt 1860s, the balls will sit down on 22 grains of black/pyrodex , etc. The velocities are even and consistent. It might also be productive to keep an open mind about the increased bullet jump the balls undergo before entering the barrel. Try it before you dismiss it as a buggerance to accuracy.
