Wondering if you guys could weigh in on some of the best deals/most interesting C&R guns to get. Just got my license, so looking at a couple of options - a Mosin 91/30, German Mauser, CZ82, Nagant Revolver.

What do you think is the best deal in C&R right now?

Thanks for any insights you can provide!

91/30, cz82, tt33, 24/47, p64, m96 would be a good start

Ah can't forget a k31!

What are you interested in? Handguns or rifles?

Interested in both handguns and long guns :) K31's seemed interesting, too!

Would like to pick up a handgun, but i think the Mosins seem too tempting to grab right now for the price...but wanted to see what folks thought - i.e. "Gun xyz isn't really all that great..." or "pick up XYZ now before they're gone."

Anyone know much about round vs. hex receiver Mosins?

Hex receivers are from before 1936, round receivers are from 1936 onward. The hex receivers are more rare since the rounds were mass produced during WW2. Also, the ones made during the war will not be as finely finished as the ones from before the war (but functionally are just fine). So if you want to guarantee yourself a pre-war Mosin, get a hex.

No real difference between the round and hex mosins. Hex is simply the older style. While there were many millions of 91/30s made, I at least think they are a great value and everyone should have one!

Start at CMP & get an M1 Garand service grade & an M1 Carbine any grade.

Already have a CMP H&R Garand, Service Grade ;) I love it. CMP is totally out of carbines of any sort, as I understand it. (Note: aside from their auctions, and I don't see the point in spending thousands for an M1 Carbine).

The CMP - the way to get battle rifles shipped straight to your door, like having a C&R, without a C&R! :)

CZ 82's are great pistols for the money, quality made and good shooters. Lots of C&R firearms out there, have fun! Send copies of your license to all the online surplus arms sellers so they can put you in their files. also, Midway and I believe will give you a dealer's discount on supplies if you send them a copy.

say good buy
to a lot of cash

and find a way to occupy yourself while waiting for the brown truck to show up, and having a smart phone kinda doesn't help. Because you will be checking the tracking data like you have OCD.

Haha, yeah I'm realizing that. And I have an iPhone :S

I sent my C&R application around October 19th. I got a letter yesterday stating the application could not be processed because.... I forgot to put the expiration date on the credit card. Already mailed it back and contacted the ATF agent. Everything should be fine but the chances of me getting myself a christmas present with my C&R are gone. *Sigh*

not really, call the them and put some on layaway, most will hold it until you send 'shipping' information if you are willing to pay upfront.

I'd start with a Cz82. Those will be like East German Makarovs...the day the Czechs run out, the price will double overnight. Follow with a P64 and a K31.

It's up to you from there. I'd be thinking of a CMP Garand.

Do you know of a good source of P64's? They seem to have dried up.

SOG
AIM
J&G's

but yeah, going on the C&R list is guaranteed to sell 20K units THE NEXT DAY
so, I heard the rumor, call and got my order in a day before, they were sold out by the 2nd day.
