I just got back from a fabulos Texas exotic bowhunt. A group of 6 guys from Kansas and a friend of the group from Texas enjoyed a first class hunt and stay at Sweet Water Creek Ranch in Decatur, TX. The 4 day hunt pack in alot of frustration for all of us. The 2500 acre ranch holds a flat ton of animals that was not the problem. The rainfall and weather made the animals very unpredictable and I don't care what you think about a high fence hunt it was nothing easy about it. The lodge was great the guides fantastic the food fantastic nothing but good things to say about this place. I ended up harvesting a very nice Auodad measuring 21 3/8" on one side and 20 9/16 on the other. Most of these animals are born on this ranch free ranging.
sweetwatercreek045.jpg The 100 grain Monotech broadhead did a fantastic job on this Auodad the 7 yard shot steep downward angle took both lungs and the heart. He dropped mid stride at 32 yards. I originally planned on using Magnus Snuffer heads but grabbed the wrong box while packing (sorry Woody). sweetwatercreek051.jpg sweetwatercreek049.jpg
My pig taken at last light of the last night. Two hogs came in on me at about 23-25 yards. The glow of the lumanock left no doubt of the hit. The arrow entered left side just behind the shoulder. Pig was dancing a normal jig and quartered toward me at impact. Arrow exit is as seen here. He made a circle and headed back to where he came in from only to drop in his tracks at 54 yards from initial hit. sweetwatercreek019.jpg Mickey Joe took this beautiful Corrisican at 15 yards.

Spencer took this massive Red stag at 27 yards the 6x6 with crowns was by far the largest animal taken within our group. sweetwatercreek113.jpg A nice Texas 8 point whitetail. sweetwatercreek147.jpg A hunter from Louisiana who joined us and his Buffalo cow. sweetwatercreek042.jpg Anyone looking a great TX bowhunt at more than a reasonable price give these guys a call. The group I hunted with has been going at least once a year for the past 8 years. We have already booked our hunt for next Sept.

Thanks for the comments all. I use broadheads over expandables cause i gave up on expandables 10 years ago. Even on this trip i saw problem after problem with guys shooting expanables. My theroy is KISS keep it super simple. Our old friend Murphy says if there is something to go wrong it will at the worst possible time. Fixed blade cut on contact broadheads have nothing to go wrong. After 10 minutes of nock tuning the broadheads hit within 1 inch of feild points out to 45 yards. What else do you need.

One of our guides has a 4 year old son who is the most polite young man one could ever meet. Little man knows more about blood trailing than most hounds. When Spencer was skinning out his Red Stag our young host headed for the kitchen for a butter knife and a set of gloves. He got right in there and helped out. sweetwatercreek122.jpg

I guess i should elaborate on my dislike for expandables. My post earlier kinda sounds a little crappy. The only expandable broadheads i have ever owned where a early generation called pucketts. Horrible little things that did not fly well and were unpredictible on game. This trip Brian launched a meat seeker through the shoot through windo of his ground blind. The broadhead ripped the screen about 5" and completly changed flight path it was a clean miss at a 15 yard target. Mark shoulder hit a black buck with a rage broadhead. These antelope are smaller than a typical german shorthair. Broadhead did not expand and only got 4" of penatration. This is from a 67# mathews reezen 7.0 going 304 fps with a 420 grain arrow. Ryan had a replaceable blade fall off in the field. I just see to darn many problems with expandables. Monotech are one peice construction solid. The Auodad i shoot as well as the hog were complete pass throughs. The hit on the auodad broke three ribs and whacked a rock HARD on the other side of the animal. I thought for sure my arrow was broken and the broadhead would be trashed. Nope the tip of the monotech was a little bend but sharpened right out within a few minutes on a flat diamond stone. i shot this arrow and broadhead several times afterwards and it still flys right to my point of aim. Bottom line they are to simple to screw up with a little practice.
