hey there guys! today i got my NAA companion revolver. i must say, i LOVE this gun! it is so compact, yet it fits my hand well for being so small! the machining is so precise, the action is crisp and smooth, the trigger pull is good, there is no play of any kind. i simply love this little gun! i will be doing a test firing pretty soon, as well as keep you guys updated on my new pistol! my father is picking up some Triple 7 for me, and from what i have heard it works well in the NAA companion revolvers! so, here is how it came:

it came in a black hard plastic lockable case. the case had two padded foam inserts. the pistol is on top. the bottom one lifts up to reveal a loading tool, powder measure, fifty 30 grain bullets in a plastic bag, a padlock with keys, a nipple wrench, a nipple pick, and the instructions booklet, a catalog with all the accessories, and a few other paper items. it is a wonderful little gun and i love mine!

so tomorrow i will take her out to the woods and set up a little range and see how she shoots :) i wanted to see how the CCI #11 percussion caps i have fit, so i put them in the empty cylinder and tried to install it. the problem is they are too darn big, the cylinder won't go into the pistol. does anyone have any percussion cap recommendations to remedy this?

Stay safe and God bless America

cool! i will have to buy some when i run out of caps! i found that you just need to seat them a little better, they will work! i just did some testing with mine, i put about 20 rounds through it! i was using black powder and the provided bullets for one cylinder then i used a percussion cap and some airgun pellets in the other test! all the holes were round, so there was no keyholing. and plus i can keep all my shots in a 3 inch spread at 10 feet one handed, but with two hands the group got a little smaller! i think that is reasonable for this little shooting iron! i still cant get over how small and cute this thing is, I thought a J-frame was small, but this little gun is so much smaller! a true palm pistol!

Cool little revolver! I was sort of hankering after one of those new top break jobbies, but now it looks like they're not going to produce them.

But back to your Companion. Is it safe to carry with all five chambers loaded? I looked at their owner's manual on line, and it refers to the half-cock notch as a safety, which sort of surprised me. I wouldn't worry about carrying a full-size cap and ball revolver with the hammer down either on a Colt-style safety pin between chambers, or with a Remington-style safety notch between chambers, especially in a holster, but I'd worry about carrying a cap and ball revolver with the hammer on 1/2 cock in my shirt pocket.

What do you think?

A nifty little trick for those that insist on keeping the hammer down on a nipple...

Leave the cap off the loaded chamber, put a small piece of masking tape over the nipple to prevent and dirt or grime from getting in, and to prevent any exposure to flame or spark.

That way, all you have to do is pull the little bit of tape off the nipple, cap it, and you have your 5th or 6th shot ready to go,

Sincerely,

My NAA "The Earl" has safety notches in the cylinder between the chambers. Is that not the same thing with the Companion? The idea is to park the hammer down in any of the notches so you can safely load all 5 chambers.

i just found a great parlor load! you take a plastic coat hanger rod put it in a drill press, and use a file to turn down the diameter to .22 caliber. you then cut it into plastic bullets. then you lube with Crisco, load them into the cylinder, prime it with toy caps, and install the cylinder. the result is a projectile that will punch holes in paper and the report is about as loud as a noisy airgun. PERFECT!!! i found i can put all five shots in an apple sized target from 20 feet away (aimed of course) without much trouble. this little revolver is actually pretty accurate for such a short barrel length.

the rider derringer is still great for indoor shooing because it is so quiet. however i do have a NAA super companion (thee Magnum version) coming to me in the mail. that could probably be my new favorite! however, the rider derringer will always hold a special place in my heart as my first blackpowder gun!

I would like to have one of those but here in Canada they are prohibited because they are of modern manufacture and the barrel is less than 4 1/8 inches long. If it were pre 1898 no problem.
I can buy a S&W 500 but not a Uberti Pocket Colt .31 with a 4 inch barrel.:banghead:

that is ridiculous, you should come to America! if you do chose to come here remember to go to a state that allows the sale of black powder guns though the mail and is free of excessive gun laws. basically stay away from New york, California, New Jersey, etc.

It is ridiculous, that is what Canadian gun laws are.
I am a Liberal and think that it makes sense to have the home front heavily armed so that if some Dicktator decides to take over....well it is not going to be easy.

You say you're Liberal, but if you were in the U.s. you'd be a Conservative!
