the dustcover is part of the frame that is in front of the trigger guard. on most 1911s it ends about an inch or so from the end of the slide. in this particular gun, the dustcover goes all the way to the end of the slide.
this leaves more room to bolt on goodies like flashlights, lasers, bayonets, bi-pods, etc. it looks different and cool, too.
harold, that is one fine lookin' shootin' iron. i am jealous.
to each his own as far as using accessory rails. i can see their place as a house gun or entry weapon for a LEO. i personally do not like them. it changes the 'personality' of a handgun putting 4 or so ounces way out on the end of the muzzle area.
i have trained using the harries (i think this is correct) method of shootin' with a flashlight. it is not by any means perfect, but it works pretty well for me.
