My wife called me from Iraq before Christmas and asked me what present I wanted. I told here she had already put a nice Colt Combat Commander on lay away at the pawn shop for me. She said she was happy she could be so generous!! I did promise her I would pay it off AFTER Christmas though. SOOO I picked it up yesterday. I paid 575 out the door for it. Upon closer inspection at home I noticed the firing pin lock was missing pieces and one of the pieces was broken. I already ordered them from Brownells. It cost 24 bucks to get the parts I needed. I just ordered all of the parts for the firing pin lock. I can't wait to shoot it. I called Colt today and they told me my gun was built in about 1984. It doesn't look bad for a 23 year old gun! How did I do guys?

I believe they are Ahrends grips. It doesn't come through that well in the pic but the diamonds are slightly raised. Nice grippy texture without being sharp. They do look nice. I probably wont' get a chance to take it out for a test drive until next Saturday. I'll post a range report. I can't wait to see how it shoots.

very nice congrats, now you just have to convience her to let you have that per diem check after the deployment!

She has been gone since July of last year. And while that paycheck is quite nice, (She is an officer, I was enlisted. Enlisted guys get soooo screwed) it doesn't compare to having my kids mom at home. I just have to hope she doesn't take a look in the safe when she gets home! She should be home in May or June if all goes well.

I hope all goes well then, and you get her back in May or June Jon. God bless bro. Nice 1911 by the way. I'm jealous.

The only 1911 I've ever had was an AMT Hardballer I customized back in 1991. IT was a super shooter. I hope this one shoots as nice. One thing that really surprised me is I had forgotten just how slim the 1911s are. My carry gun, M&P 9c is quite a bit thicker than the 1911 in the slide. I have a feeling my Commander may end up on my hip instead of that M&P! I don't think I could part with the M&P though. Its a really nice shooter.

Thanks for the kind words about my wife's deployment. It ironic that I got out of the Marines in 1994 because I had married my first wife and I didn't want her to have to go through the hardship me getting deployed to Iraq of some other God forsaken place. I intended to start a family. Now, years later I am married to my second wife, we have three kids, and I am the one sitting home while SHE is deployed. Fate has a strange sense of humor!

I thought 575 seemed like a good price. The guy who runs the shop is usually very reasonable. I bought a Tula rearsenaled Russian SKS there for 175 bucks. The Colt was originally marked 699.00. I asked him what he had to have for it and he said 575. I would have given him 599.99 which is what I thought he was going to offer.

She is the greatest. I am really proud of her service. She is a Major in a state that is, well, less than progressive when it comes to women with authority and throw in the fact she is black (West Virginia is only 1% black) and she has some tremendous hurdles to overcome. I was in the Marines Corps. The kind of insubordination and disrespect she has had to endure in the National Guard just doesn't happen there. She has handled herself very well and as you can tell I'm very proud of her.
But this thread is about my new 45!!!! I just got some Chip McCormick Powermags for it today. I also bought a couple boxes of ammo. I have some WWB JHP, Magtech FMJ, Remington UMC FMJ, and some FMJ, semi-wadcutters, and some 200gr XTP JHPs from Mountaineer Custom Cartridge. I figure the 200gr XTPs might not be a bad carry load for now. I will probably order some 230gr HSTs if I plan to start carrying it.
