Thanks Ron. It should be a good looking stock .... it's brand new from Numrich. It is of excellent quality too. Truth is I built that rifle from scratch using the bolt and receiver from a junker. The rest is new Remington mil-surplus. I think it turned out quite well and it shoots excellent.
With the exception of possibly getting a all original in new condition 03 I perfer an arsenal rebuild. One, I want a rifle that is in as near new condition as possible cause I am going to shoot the heck out of it. Two, the arsenals do a fantastic job when rebuilding these things. When you get one you know the gun is in top notch shooting condition. I've seen guys who have "original" 03s that are all beat up, it has excessive throat errosion and the lands are going south, the finish is none existant ... you know they look and shoot like they have been through the war .... which they have. Then they say "well I like the original stuff cause it has history" ... that's fine but what exactly is the history of the particular rifle? Does he really know and what difference does it make. It's like a rebuild is in some way is of less valuable or less of a firearm ...... that's rediculous. So in short Ron I think your rifle is a wonderful find for only $500 .... that's a steal nowadays. So don't worry about is it original or a rebuild, just shoot it and enjoy that high quality piece of Americana.
