Good price too. Couldn't believe it. Only $768.00 AFTER TAX. Anyone else getting better "out the door" prices for them?

Anyway, I've been wanting this gun for 20 years in either .44 Special or .45 ACP/Auto Rim. Was really happy they started making them again with the M21, but was really disappointed with the gold emblem and round butt frame, so couldn't bring myself to buy it. They did the M22 right, however, i.e., no emblem and no round butt frame. That was all I needed to go out and order one. Already have the Stag grips for it. Will post some pictures when it comes and I get the grips on.

PS Not happy with the key lock system built into the side plate, but what can you do?

$768 with tax sounds like suggested retail. I was quoted $729 plus tax locally and bought one off GunBroker for $630+$10+$15. Somewhere I saw a dealer posting that he was selling these for $599+shipping.

Yeah, I see it for as low as $659.00 on Guns America, but then most places I know around here will charge at least $50.00 to receive it for me, and then there's shipping cost on top of that. So it is not as huge a disparity as it might at first seem. So, we're talking about a $20 difference. For that $20 I get to buy from my local shop that I have an established relationship with, and I know they will stand by the products they sell. Something goes wrong, and I just bring it to them and they take care of it. I think that's worth the $20 difference.

I asked my dealer how much for one, and he quoted me $721.74 out the door. Not too bad, considering sales tax is 6% and the cost of overnight shipping that gets baked into the price.

If it did not have the integral lock, I would be very interested in one.

I wonder if S&W has done a study to see how many sales they have lost because of the internal locks they now put on everything. Its a shame, but no new Smiths for me!

I find the lock mildly irritating. They will all have them eventually so what can you do?

Seems like a decent price to me ... I've been contemplating this model myself ... after due consideration, I rejected the huge gold TR logo on the 21. I've decided I will live with The Lock (still prefer pre-lock Smiths) and have a 686+ and a 637 with the friggin' lock, both of which have sweet trigger pulls and display excellent accuracy.

Just a heads up....

After less than a year...and multiple trips to Smith....where they proceeded to buff off the lettering on the barrel..:banghead:

There were other major difficulties...after 42 rounds...the rifling in the barrel was rippled...on one gun...on the other spent cases would not eject...had to be pried out...should I keep going?:cuss:

I sent my pair of 21's in...and got a call yesterday that told me they were too far gone to repair...and that Smith would not replace them...because the 21 was now Obsolete.:what:

I think there are some probs at Smith that need attention.

They are going to refund my money...even though I told them I would be happy to have them replaced with 22's...but they insisted on just sending a check which I am waiting for now....:fire:

$768? OTD? I paid $796 each for the 21's....I thought the 22 was sposed to be the DE BLINGED version...:(

I will pass on any new Smith...from now until forever.;)

It wouldn't surprise me if they have - and, having some experience in the corporate world myself - it wouldn't surprise me if the decision makers took a "shoot the messenger" approach.

Corporate bigwigs just hate it when a subordinate shows them they've blundered . . . and having proof sometimes only makes it worse.

One day a smart business mind will make some good money retrofitting after-market side plates to these guns, absent key holes. That's my theory. I'll be first in line to buy one and have it fitted when that happens.
