S&W MODEL 22 THUNDER RANCH

Need some knowledge on this one.
Did S&W make this gun in a Square & Round Butt Frame.
Mine is the Round Butt but I have came across a set of Square Butt Thunder Ranch Grips.
Where there other Thunder Ranch N Frames other than the Model 22 ?

The M21 TR was a round butt in .44spl, the M22 TR is a square butt in .45ACP.
The M21 was (is?) available with or without the gold TR logo engeaved on the sideplate.

Agree with the first answer. The Thunder Ranch Revolver Model 21 .44 Spl was round butt.

Here's a shot of the square butt Thunder Ranch Revolver Model 22 that I bought (notice the serial number?).



The Model 22 grips usually had some gorgeous wood!



Those grips you have are worth some impressive money!

nitesite: I have the same revo (different s/n of course). It's a heck of a shooter... The grips are beautiful but it tears up the the web of my hand when shooting it. I have to tape up like I'm going to play football

A great revolver, the 45ACP is a hoot to shoot.

I removed it from mine. For me the biggest issue is that the frame mounted firing pin design changes the DA trigger pull tremendously vs. S&Ws with hammer mounted firing pins. They had to re-engineer the mainspring strain screw to get a harder hammer fall and that means a heavier double-action pull.

Well, a few months later I sold it to a collector. When I owned it I put [HORROR] rubber Hogues on it [/HORROR] to preserve the beautiful grips which I thought were too small for my tastes anyway.

My DA pull is ridiculously sweet. I don't know why this one is so good, but it is nicer than any of the 100s of S&W's I've felt as of late (including 4 other Model 22 TR's!). Its almost like it came with an action job. <shrug> That's why I bought it on the spot.

Maybe I'll try some of those Hogues. It sure hurts to shoot.

So, nitesite, just what kinda money do you think the M22 grips are worth?

I just can't use magna style grips on anything. They don't work with my hands at all. I swapped mine out to Eagle Heritage grips, and never plan on going back, so I just might sell the originals off. What have you seen them go for?

I've seen people looking for them offering $40-$50. Your 22-4 looks so much more practical and comfortable IMHO. I filed down the early-production sight as well but had a correct replacement blade, two pins and a drill bit sent to me by S&W. The parts kit went with the gun when I sold it.

My hand hurt as well. Glad it wasn't just me! And I'm glad that the DA trigger on yours is better than most. Mine wasn't atrociously bad, like some I've felt. The collector who bought mine said that he was very happy at the smoothness of the DA trigger, although it was a bit heavy.
