Well I finally did it.

I've had my eyes open for a nice Bulgarian or East German Mak for a while now to add to my collection of Eastern European pistols, a 1967 Polish P-64 and a Czech CZ-82.

Stumbled across a really nice one at a gunshow today and picked it up. Really excellent shape, bakelite plastic star grips and the guy threw in two holsters, cleaning rod and six mags all for $200. I'm pretty pleased! Date code makes it a 1984.

I'll take and post a couple pics in a bit and I can't wait to get it out and put some rounds through it!

Here's the pics! Taken by phone camera so I hope they are ok.

It's THE surplus pistol I've always wanted but didn't have in my collection. Really cool to find this one today and especially for what I got for the price!

This may go into the usual carry rotation for sure once I shoot it and get used to it. I really love it.

You did really well. That thing is pristine. It doesn't have the scratch from movement of the decocker! I'd almost feel guilty for carrying and shooting that :D

Now go round out your 9x18 collection with a pa-63 and a p-83... Should be cake to find a pa-63 in the same condition as your mak (either hungarian cops never actually carried their guns, or darn near all the surplus pa-63's were just never issued. don't think i've ever seen one with any wear on it).

Taking it out today (finally!) to put it through it's paces. Bringing 200 rounds, 50 Silver Bear HPs and 150 Brown Bear FMJs. Can't wait and I'm totally excited about this pistol with all I've been reading about it during the week. Like I said, I've always wanted one!

Also taking out my new milled receiver Polish 1960 AK I just picked up.:cool: Had my eye on one for some time now and finally sprung and bought one since a buddy agreed to buy my WASR 10 to offset my cost. I just think of it as an upgrade. :D

Today will be a tribute to the downfall of the Soviet Union, Ha! I should, in all honesty, be out shooting my Civil War black powder guns as it is the 149th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam today. I just can't resist the new pickups though and am chomping at the bit to get these new ones out to the range.

Check out the Makarov forum on gunboards.com.....great info. I used to own 14 of these, all at one time. I was really into these for years. That Bulgarian you have is a true Makarov. Utter simplicity and reliability and quite nice looking to boot. It seems a lot of people think that every pistol that shoots the 9x18 round is a Makarov. Nothing is further from the truth.

I would still own a bunch of them except I reload now and they throw brass into the next county and I couldn't find them.:)
