Yesterday I went to the gun store to choose between 2 guns I had ordered. The Slim Hawg and the STI LS-9. After compairing the 2 for about an hour I decided on the Slim Hawg. Although the polishing and bluing was better on the STI, I was not impressed with the tolerances at all on that model. The hammer moved side to side and was a bit loose. The slide had slop in it. The magazine (which is only made by STI) seamed cheaply made and no others are available. Basically over all the machine work wasn't up to par. So I bought the Para. I took it to the range last night and put only 73 rounds through it. The gun is pretty accurate for only having a 3" barrel. I was keeping pretty tight groups at 20 feet. I would say 2". Anyway, there were many instances that I would need to reach up with my left thumb to push the slide forward that last 1/4" or so. From my understanding 1911's need to go through a couple hundered rounds o rmore to break them in. Is this just part of the normal break in or could it be a flaw in the machining? Could it have been the ammuntion I was using? Maybe I should get some new magazines other than the production ones that came with it. If so which brand? Thanks in advance.

Para's QC is spotty, at best. Tear the pistol down and clean it, following the instructions in the manual. Lubricate it with their supplied lube, as in the manual. Follow the break-in procedure in the manual.

Don't start adding more magazines to the mix until you've broken the pistol in.

nice gun

I wish you all the luck in the world with yournew Para...

After after my first outing to the range I returned home and did a quick external cleaning of the gun and sprayed some lube on the moving parts. So yesterday I went back to the range and put the rest of my ammo through it so I am up to 250 rounds through the gun at this point. Again I went home to clean the gun but this time I pulled the slide off the frame and founf the cause couse of my issues. The recoil spring plug (looks like a barrel bushing) has one of the tabs broken off and it was inside the slide. Hence the slide not closing all the way. So I am going to give Para a call in a few minutes to see what they can do for me.
