happened to be an IDPA classifier

ESP (9mm Combat Commander ran well)

Overall score - 175.86 = Marksman

38.68 short of Sharpshooter.

they inverted the stages and began with stage 3

3 - 67.89

2 - 41.92

1 - 66.05

I started strong, shot accurately and didn't rush.
Shot well on stage 2.
But in spite of what I knew in advance and reviewed on my notecard, I still managed to rush and miss head shots on Stage 1. What was up with that?? :uhoh:

I knew better and was disappointed with blowing what should have been my best stage.
Strange how that happens.

Guys at the match were super good people and put up with all my noob questions and antics.

I know I can shoot much better than Sharpshooter, and can't wait to shoot again.

Really enjoyed my first IDPA match.

Its always great to have a new member in the sport. It is fun isn't it. Don't worry about the head shots, its a common mistake at first. It won't be the last "*** was that" moment you will have. Glad you had fun and keep it up.

spirit of competition

Way to go Doc, now you are part of the solution and not the problem, It's big fun huh? Looks like real respectable scores for a first match, just some advice I was given many ,many years ago.......when going to retrieve your weapon, slow is smooth, smooth is fast, ergo slow is fast. Keeps your head and shoulders from bobbling around and keeps them still and focused on target, therefore allowing you to place your shots on target faster than the next guy that went real fast for his gun and got all out of shape. Hope it helps and congratulations, we are now Brothers In Arms............rip.

GOOD!

The classifier is not one of my favorite IDPA matches, though some enjoy them. I find running a regular match to be far more entertaining, especially when you have a good club, and a match director with a good imagination.

Contrary to popular belief, competition shooting WILL significantly enhance your ability to operate your weapon, which pays off big time in defense and hunting situations.

I shoot both IDPA and USPSA. The IDPA matches are a little more practical, and the USPSA matches are faster paced. Both offer an exciting and entertaining approach to developing and maintaining handgun proficiency.

Thanks

Stick a fork in me, I'm done.

Ordering mod's for my Commander and looking to shoot another match this week!

<g> Same advice I gave ya on GlockTalk, guy. Save the mods money and buy ammo instead. If she's working, don't mess with her.

We always joke about modded up 1911s--"Look Billy, a Kimber shooter got off a double tap--quick, make a wish!!", and "Is there a gunsmith in the house?" when they have the inevitable jam. They are UNIVERSALLY modded up guns with new shooters. An experienced 1911 shooter with a good factory gun doesn't have problems. Problems come when the shooter misses his grip or limpwrists it, uses 165 grain SWCs--that sort of thing.

Trust me--get the experience first and worry about modding up the gun when you start waiting for the slide to cycle between shots. When you can outshoot the gun, THATs the time for changes.

good advice, thanks

only a sight upgrade from the factory G.I. blade/notch setup and Colt wraparound grips. Had'em before and liked them.

Some are complaining that it should be a safe queen with the box, books, and papers, but I bought it to shoot.

Get used to that. Best folks in the world are IDPA guys & gals! And TX has more than it's fair share of good ones, too! :)

I know I can shoot much better than Sharpshooter, and can't wait to shoot again.
No reason to rush through your Classifications! Get a bunch more match experience with regular matches, and enter a Sanctioned match or two. Moving up a class is fine. Getting BUMPED up by winning your class/division at a major match...PRICELESS! :D

Moving up simply means you'll get beaten by a better class of shooter! Then you start working your way up to the top of your heap...win something, get bumped, and start back at the bottom again!

Really enjoyed my first IDPA match.
Very cool! Welcome to the club!

Beautiful 1911! Replacing the GI sights was the biggest bang for buck mod you could do.

The best shooting advice I got was from Bruce Gray; you have to get your mind out of the way and let your subconscious break the shot.
