Am I the only one who wakes up in the morning and flips on the tube to see what the news has to say,and then has the desire to go :barf: . No I know I'm not the only one the question is retorical. I'm so tired of the political bashing that goes on or the death toll in Iraq. The list seems to me to go on and on. I love my country but I am truly worried about the direction it is going. I keep thinking about my daughter having to grow up in a place that becomes more disfunctional every day. It seems like the only joy I have these days comes from my daughter and shooting.Sorry to be a downer but I just needed to get that off my chest. Hell maybe even knowing I'm not the only one makes it bearable.

i'm with ya brother...

I've got two little girls, one 7 and one 3. I look back at what has happened over the last 15 years and dread the thought of where we are going to be when they are just getting out of high school. Just this morning as i was backing down the driveway on our way to church, i was thinking how woefully ignorant i am of how our government operates and how i can best 'do my part' to make a positive change for their sake.

I have a TV, but don't watch it more than a couple of hours a week. As for news, I get that from the Internet. Saves time and heartburn! :D

Its not just the news. I have yet to pick up a news paper for that matter or magazine that doesn't pound you with the same miserable crap over and over again. Anymore it just gets me down. Bye the way Im not manic depressive. It just sucks that their is so much negativity in the media. I can almost understand how some people get that way. Maybe I just need to cut as much media out of my diet as possible.

The news media has one purpose and it's not to bring you the "news" as you might think of it.

It is not pure information they peddle, it is pure influence .

The "intertainment" part of TV programming isn't much better.

I agree mnrivrat. My dad says the problem with the media is instead of reporting the news they try to creat the news. I tend to agree with him.
Same here. In fact, some station's news slogan actually says something like "we not only report the news, we MAKE the news."

Isn't TV news there to tell you about the latest apartment fire, dog attack, or shooting  :scrutiny:

I can't watch it anymore either, like most of you guys I get my info from the Internet.

change that to daughters and remove the 'but', and it is the same thing i've been saying since my second girl was born...

I have cable and only really watch The History Channel, SciFi Channel, and maybe once in a blue moon Fox news. Newspapers come to me from my family and go into a box to be used to lay out when cleaning a new to me milsurp rifle, or for wet newspaper bullet tests.....

Other than that, I get my news from you guys and gals!

I have quit reading newspapers as well. I finally came to the conclusion that their primary function was to transfer printers ink from the paper to my hands. Other than the funnies, there was nothing of worth on the pages. I don't understand why, in this high tech age, someone cannot invent a non-smear ink.

The last place I go for news is the national MSM organs. Years ago I finally realized how slanted and biased those outlets were. The decision to go cold turkey was quite easy. The internet opened up an alternative news universe. My fav is http://www.mondotimes.com/ . A list of worldwide media outlets. Wanna know about the earthquake in Pakistan? I figure the local paper would know more, sooner than Brian will know in a few days.

Seek out other sources. It ain't all bad out there.

I'm with y'all. I have TVs in both workshops, and I keep the one up here tuned to The History Channel and the one at the river on the Military Channel. Both are instructive and spare me the heartburn of pretty but self-occupied talking heads.

It's not news, it's what passes for sensationalistic entertainment- there are physchologists and psychiatrists that tell their patients who they are treating for depression to not watch the news or read the newspapers because it is a false presentation of what the world is really like- lot's of good things happen it's just not reported- Herr Goerbles (sp) would be proud
