So i just toured Ithaca gun Company last week and got to see how they make their shotguns, VERY impressed with the quality of their product, It truly is 100% American made, with a price tag to suit. I'll post this here since it deals with both Shotguns and Pistols.
Some of the things i saw were:

Receivers being made for Model 37's on CNC machinery, then being hand finished and fitted together by assembly staff. They check Tolerances to half a thousandth of an inch. They cut internal parts out and engrave with machines that are accurate to as the tour guide decribed, to 1/4 the thickness of a sheet of paper.

The Repair shop, run by a master gunsmith.

Their upcoming over/under shotgun intended for trap and skeet, a lightweight field model is coming soon. It felt really nice, swung and pointed extremely well. MSRP is about 2500 dollars.

Their Model 37 trap gun, available in 2 rib heights and retailing for about 900. If i had to get a gun for trap other than my model 12 this would be it.

A model 37 home defense gun that comes factory standard with a collapsable AR type stock.

A model 37 HD/Police backup gun that comes factory standard PGO with a 14 inch barrel.

Their upcoming 1911, a factory ready competition/target grade pistol that comes in a very nice fitted hardcase that locks and holds extra mags and a cleaning kit. It felt very nice, balanced well and the trigger was simply awsome. It will run 2 to 3 grand apparantly, and is completely machine made with no hand fitting so all 1911 parts will fit. It really blows the new Remington 1911 out of the water. The Remington feels chincy, reminds me alot of the cheap POS chiappa 22 i traded back in the day i bought it.

So i came home lusting after their fine products and genuinely impressed, their focus is on quality, their attitude seems to be it will be done when its done because we are going to do it right, no cut corners and no exeptions.

Their graphic artist, who can turn any picture you bring her into a program that can be used to engrave it onto the side of a Model 37 and then gold inlayed if you so choose. The most interesting was a Stryker fighting vehicle ingraving made for the crew of one of these vehicles to present to their TC/vehicle commander.

And the stock works, where their master assembler will custom make a stock for any of their guns to the demensions you provide, In this same room was the air drying racks for stock blanks, with they dry at the factory for 3 years or so before touching them. They will be making changes with their wood supplier so as to have better control over what is considered AA and AAA grade wood.

So, any questions?

Well believe it or not you can't change thread titles in edit mode for whatever reason.
Also i was really to busy to look at their sign.

Actually you can, go under "advanced" when you edit. But I'll do it for you so you don't get picked on any further ;)

Glad to see Ithaca Gun Company up and running again.

I lived quite close to the old factory on Gun Hill while going to college. The company was essentially run out of town by anti-gun fanatics posing as environmentalists concerned with lead pollution... the fascistic Superfund sealed the deal. :fire:

As far as I'm concerned, the real pollution in Ithaca are the leftists who infest the area.

I'm in Syracuse, about 40 minutes from Ithaca. It was devistating when the old plant shut down. It's really nice seeing it back up and running. Thanks for the 1st hande experience and update.

I am SO glad to hear that the venerable Model 37 is back in production. These guns are an American standard classic. I know so many old guys who have been hanging on to those guns because they can't find anything new that measures up to their old M37. Hope the new ones are as good as the old ones were.

Nice to see that MAYBE they re starting to get their act together..........friend got an advanced model of the 37 for a review..........took three samples to get one that WORKED - not exactly instilling confidence when you send a non-working version TWICE to a gun writer.....................

I'll pass....................and too bad because I am LH

Do the new M37's have a trigger disconnect?

Also, does the furniture on the forward grip rattle like on Mossberg 500's, or is it smooth?

Furniture seemed solidy attached with minimal rattle,

Barrels seem fixed but i really don't know, as to options, if you have the money their custom shop will build you just about anything you specify within reason, considering it is in the same building as the machines that ream barrels.

and as far as having one that works they test fire each gun quite a bit with the mag tube filled with a mix of 2 and 3/4 and 3 inchers each time, so that would seem to be a non issue currently.

And the 1911 isnt an entry level gun, it is a fully upgraded competition ready target pistol. Also all those prices were msrp prices so they will probably be selling for considerably less.

As to a trigger disconnect that i don't know.

And one thing i forgot to mention: The model 37 now comes in 28 guage, it felt unbelievably good in my hands and seems to fit the bill for a perfect upland game gun.

The plant seems to be there to stay, Upper Sandusky is way too small for that kind of crap, and the area around it is mostly country folk and small town folks, so i doubt they will run into past issues.

And thanks Tex, didnt Know you could do that in advanced edit, thanks for changing the title.

Thanks for the report.

Don't feel bad about the spelling, I've gotten some great deals on gunbroker because someone put Ithica in their item title and not too many people seem to find those auctions :D

Thanks for the report. The first shotgun I ever went hunting with was a Model 37 in 20 gauge with a plain 26" barrel. Nothing even remotely fancy; just a good old, no frills, hard working shotgun.
