In the shadows....
I have been seeing a lot of mention about needing something to penetrate Body Armor in a SHTF scenario. Is this a real concern? How many instances of perps using body armor have there been lately? I mean beside the West Hollywood bank goofballs?

Since any old centerfire rifle will go clean through soft body armor (front and back) only rifle plates provide any real protection from rifles.

Areas of coverage are smaller than the entire torso, and then only from the front and back.

Considering the weight, I am not sure that hard armor might not be more trouble than it is worth.

And you can still get shot in the arms, legs, and head, in addition to uncovered portions of the torso.

Not something I would worry about.

plus i wouldn't think of these things as too common. I'm not sure the laws on them personally, but i would imagine they would be hard to come by.

If you got the bucks you can get any body armor you want.

The facts are that anything but the very expensive Interceptor type armor in use by the military will not protect the wearer from centerfire rifle ammunition.

three instances

Enfield 303,
I know of three instances related to me by victims who were in these situations. All three were home invasions. They knew body armor was worn by the BGs when they were being tied up. They all mentioned feeling a cushion like bump that felt like a very firm pillow on the body of the
BGs.

These were all in the Hollyweird area, but they weren't making movies. Two of the victims were pistol whipped badly. The third was raped. I heard the story from her husband.

I am not an LEO. Part of my job is conducting home inspections when they sell. Mandatory in the city that I work in. I usually ask why the seller is selling their home. Those were the reasons related to me when I asked.

While I have never heard a definitive story about gun confiscation in New Orleans, if a bunch of swat guys came to my house trying to take my guns for no reason, they would be getting shot at. If I lived in New Orleans, and if this was as big of an issue as the NRA seemed to want everybody to believe, the ability to penetrate body armor would be a concern of mine. Just the same, I suppose thats what head shots are for.

3 in the DFW area with in the last year or so. I think that they were part
of the same group though.

Its not a concern. People who think they really need armor piercing ammo are picturing an apocolyptic/NATO invasion/Chicom invasion situation. Its TEOTWAWKI fantasy.

The key is being able to protect yourself, to be mobile, and have a system that is rugged and easy to maintain.

By the way, most modern JHP rifle ammo will penetrate body armor. Smaller caliber softpoint and roundnose stuff probably won't.

Reach in left pant pocket

Attach M6X tac light trun on laser and spot, place dot on nose of BG fire, end of threat. When practiced you can fluidly do this while doing the draw from the pancake, adds less than .5 seconds. Also you could try the much vaunted "Agila" ammo suppose to chew right through a level 3, but test it first.

Actually, bullet construction is irrelevant at rifle velocities. A roundnose softpoint .30-30 will go through Level II and IIIA body armor like it's not there, for the same reason that a softpoint .30-06 will go through a half inch of mild steel--sheer velocity. Even .17 Remington would almost certainly penetrate II and IIIA.

I think that's nothing but gunshop urban legend. If it did, you can bet that the anti-gun groups would be screaming about it from the housetops (look at the way they are screaming about the FN FiveSeven pistol, which won't penetrate II or IIIA with civilian ammunition).
