K-38 Information Needed

I'm interested in purchasing a Model 14 (K-38) S&W, in excellent condition, with box and papers and would like to know what a fair price would be for this revolver. Knowing the date of manufacture would also be appreciated (serial no.K 3123xx). Thanks for any and all information.

All K frame revolvers with adjustable sights made 1948 until the early 1980s have a letter K prefix. Then S&W went to a three letter prefix starting with AAA. If there is no K prefix then that is not the serial.

Did you fail to mention the K but otherwise that's the correct serial? If so then it's a K38 Masterpiece made in 1957 just before the model numbers were assigned. You call it a Model 14. Is there a model number stamped on the frame under the yoke?

If that's not the actual serial then I can't help you.

Sorry, Saxon Pig-I failed to note that the serial number does have a "K" before it. I edited my post to reflect the correct information. There's no model number under the yoke but it does have the number 26728 there. I assume the actual serial number is on the butt (K 3123xx)? Thanks for your response.
